How Good is Tamim?

Shakib Al Hasan has already the honours of being their first truly international player imho.
Shakib would get in most if not all sides around the world, probably more than Tamim would.

Just makes you wonder why they have such a ridiculous batting order with the other 2 real test quality players going in at 7 and 8 last week. The number 3 could become one too the way he is going lately.

Best young batsman in the world

21 with virtually no formal training and he's bashing the hell out of test cricketers

I hope that he can get his head together because he could be another Lara

Rafique was the 1st Test Class Cricketer before Bashar, If he had any support on the other end he would have had a Sub 30 Average and over 250 Wickets if we ever had foreced the opposition to bat in the 2nd innings

Definitely better than Vettori as a spinner. But as said never had luxury of bowling to his batsmen, and also rarely bowled in the 3/4 innings.

Are you serious? Have you seen him pull and hook?
No I haven't becuase I've only seen limited parts of his play, him having not played a series against australia. But I made it pretty clear I meant his front foot play and to spinners, if you need to read it again. If you don't think they look similar off the front foot then you are blind. I'll try to make a video side by side on the weekend if its that hard for you to see.

Completely disagree. IMO Tamim is technically a complete package (obviously Hughes is no-where near text book).
If you think a 21 year old with a test average of less than 40 is technically a complete package there is nothing I can say.

There's stiff challenge from Mathews to take that title. (BTW Mathews just turned 23) And their average is also very close.

TBF, Mathews hasn't played a good sample imho (although his FC record is brilliant for a SL at this age). Tamim always have had to face the new ball also.

And it's ironic that Mathws has to face spin most of the time where he loves pace and bounce.

Until Mathews starts getting test centuries then there is no comparison.
Nearly made one when run out for 99, and missed out on another when Sanga called a draw with Pakistan. And he'll definitely going to make one or two with in next few games against India and West Indies.

Why would you say anything? That was my opinion. Plus technique alone doesn't determine how good a batsmen is, that is why most people are saying he needs to pull his head together.

Yeah, because scoring 103 is worth so much more than scoring 99.
Haha, nothing quite like conceiving of an entirely arbitrary number of runs at which an innings becomes "good", then criticising a player for scoring one less run than that number.

Jacques Kallis will never be an all-time great until he scores a Test double.

Boycott motivates Tamim

After scoring the fastest Test century at the home of cricket for 20 years, Tamim Iqbal revealed he had an unlikely source of inspiration: Geoffrey Boycott. The former England opener was on television the night before saying Bangladesh should not be playing Test cricket. Well, Tamim happened to catch that segment and was none too pleased about it.

"I felt very bad and could not sleep until 1am,” he said. “It made me determined to do something to show him. They are the senior cricketers whom we respect. We expect them to respect us as well. I wanted to prove to the world that we are getting there.”

Tamim defended his team’s improvement over the last five years and went on to compare the Bangaldeshi side to a chocolate company that wants to compete with Cadbury. “If you start a chocolate company you can't compete with Cadbury in the first 10 years because they are a big company."

With his 94-ball century behind him, Tamim showed there were no hard feelings, saying he would love to be coached by Boycott. "Maybe he could coach me defence. There are lots of guys who attack and they can teach me that. Geoff was a good defender I think."
