How do you rate Brian Lara as an ODI Batsmen?

Lara averages 40 as an ODI bat and only has 19 ODI hundreds, not really great.

but when batting in the upper order/top order (1-3) he averages 46 and has a 82 SR, mind you, the vast majority of his upper order batting came in the 1990s.

17 of his 19 hundreds come in the top order, 15 of them are in winning causes.

it's pretty clear his stats are ****ed by batting down the order in his later years, so, how'd you rate him in one days?

He could have challenged AB's 3rd Greatest spot if played only in top order.
Still his numbers are excellent.. Its like averaging 55 at 90 SR in today's terms.

I voted "top ten". But then thought of all the other players I'd likely include in that bracket (i.e., not in the top 5 but better than top 15 or 20 or whatever), and realised I'd probably pick him over all of them without a second thought.

Also Lara's top order stats far better than Ponting.

There's a 6-7 year difference.
Also Lara's peak was 90s.. Ponting boosted numbers in easier era.
