there we go, as you can see Inter are running away with the league now, and barring a major foul up on my part I should finish 5th at the very least, would be awful to somehow not do so now. Being on similar points to Juve, Roma and Milan gives me hope that I could push for fourth, but would require a slip up on one of the other teams behalf as I have already played Milan and Juve twice, and dont fancy picking anything up whilst playing Roma away....we'll see how it pans out...

Installed the patch, and the match engine is certainly much better imo. Playing with 'pool, and sitting 5th, 23 games into the season, 2 wins behind City. Torres has been on fire, as has Sissoko, Auerllio & Kewell.

Would be interesting to know if anyone has a successful tactic for playing in wet matches? In the 4 wet matches I've played this season in the EPL, i've only won 1 of them, and that was against Fulham, whilst losing the others to Portsmouth, Newcastle & Chelsea. I've tried all sorts of tactics but I can't find 1 that works.

You're using Liverpool says it all really.

hmmm the patch is meant to stop the amount of dissalowed goals as well, i noticed that with the patch i see far fewer dissalowed goals (particularly from corners), havent played FM for a few days now, havent had the time, however my cars going into the garage tomorrow morning so I should have plenty of time to play it when i'm waiting around before I can go and collect it.
Actually I don't think I'd ever had a goal disallowed from a corner, it's mostly been offsides and things like that. Actually scored a good portion of my goals from corners this season which is quite funny 'cause my team is generally weak in the air.

Loads of people have been rabbiting on saying that there is a bug which allows you to score too easily from corners, I havent really seen this myself tbh, my sentiments on the patch are that it has improved things considerably. But prior to it being patched it seemed for me that pretty much every goal scored from a corner was dissalowed. Its also good to now see strikers taking the ball around the keeper and rolling it in when possible.

just realised, perhaps slightly worryingly, that more than half of my goals scored in the league this season have been scored by one player.....lets be hoping that we dont get any injuries...

Same happened to me. Rooney scored at least half my goals. Fortunately the other players didn't make his absence notable whenever he was injured/ rested.

This season is turning into a really interesting one, the quadruple is still on going into March, despite some massively inconsistent league form - I have already been beaten seven times. I am one point clear of United at the top, however five points seperate first and sixth.

Arsenal, amusingly, are battling relegation (though Wenger's job status isn't even "slightly insecure") but all the other big clubs from 2001 are still challenging in March 2012. This is true of the rest of Europe too, except for Real Madrid, who despite only having come outside the top two once since the save began, are currently bottom and looking odds-on to go down. If I win the CL with Everton this year I may look to go there, as Del Bosque is predictably looking odds-on for his P45 (or, he would be if he was in the UK tbh).

Still haven't even made a CL final despite my domestic dominance over the last few years, going out in the semis on penalties this time around. Won the FA Cup 3-2 in extra time, and retained the league quite comfortably in the end, despite finishing on only 75 points.

Unfortunately both Real Madrid and Arsenal avoided relegation, both Wenger and Del Bosque are very insecure.

After an indifferent start to the season with Liverpool in '08, we managed to win 15 of our last 17 (the 2 we didn't win were a draw & a loss to Chelsea & Arsenal) to finish 3rd, 1 point behind United, and 6 points behind Chelsea. Won the league cup along the Way, with a 3-2 extra-time win over Chelsea. Arsenal knocked me out in the 5th round of the FA cup, and Man U knocked us out on penalties in the semis of the CL. I managed to sign Rafael van der Vaart in the January transfer window, who made a huge impact on the team, gave us so much more balance.

Now in the summer I've managed to sign Daniel Alves from Sevilla for 36m, and I'm trying to get 2 of Huntelaar, Michael Johnson, Micah Richards, Stewart Dowling or Vincente. Sold Riise, Alonso & Voronin for 40m between them.

Finished my Season with fiorentina last night, was 4th at the beginning of the last day of the season, however, Juve were only 1 point behind, and were playing lowly atalanta at home on the last day. I on the other hand had to play Roma away and needed to win to stay in the champs league spaces, as it happens I was tonked 4-1 and finished in 5th, dissapointing to come so close to the champions league places and not get one of them, but the board is happy with nearly everything else so its been a decent season really. Though the strength of the top teams is just overpowering, I finished on 78 points and this still was not enough to get in the top 4, hopefully after saving most of my transfer budget this season I can bring in a few new players to try and break into the top 4.

After getting slightly bored of 01/02, I have returned to 08 for the time being. Patch is highly impressive - the game plays like a proper football match now. It's going to take a while to get used to how slow it processes in comparison to 01/02, but oh well.

Due to board confidence not being fixed, I'm only going to get annoyed with LLM so I'm United. I got to November in 2nd before accidentally deleting my game, so I've just started again (one Prem game played, a 3-2 win away at Eastlands).

In the first game that got deleted though there was worrying board confidence, despite winning all of my CL group games and being 2nd (on GD) in the league, the board felt I should be doing "slightly better" due to losing the Charity Shield. Still, enjoying it much more now.

Wouldnt worry about that tbh, unless their general summary turns to be "unhappy with performance etc..." then you should be fine, if you get to the end of the season and achieve most of the expectations in the major competitions and have finances in a decent state then you shouldnt have any problems really.

Good thing about the match engine is, that because it is so very decent, playing with a top team still offers a challenge, which makes it much more interesting than the previous versions for mine.

Hmm, I find the boards can be a little demanding sometimes. I had a United file going recently and in my first season I came 3rd and got to the Quarters of all three cup competitions, then in the second season I did fairly poorly in the league, floundering between 4th and 7th for most of the latter part of the season, but I won the Carling Cup and got to the semis of both other competitions, yet they still didn't renew my contract at the end of the season and I found myself jobless. Maybe it was because I didn't win the League inside their two year plan.

Not got a file going ATM due to my lack of enthusiasm/available time, but do plan to eventually get a long-term file going with Pompey at some point. Usually I last about two seasons and then either get frustrated and bored or sacked.

Yeah I think a failure to satisfy the long term goals set by the board generally results in a sacking from what I have heard, but then again I suppose you could argue that its fair enough, as in real life if you were given a job, on which satisfying a set goal was a pre-requisite to your employment and you failed to reach said standards you would perhaps be likely to get the sack. And if a manager of Utd had a real season in which the team was only around the 5th place mark then it is perhaps likely they would be asked to leave?

That said, the confidence section clearly is not perfect, and there are certainly several questionable issues surrounding it.

Yeah, you're probably right about real life TBH, I would have been sacked. But there are definitely issues with the confidence section. Sometimes the fans judge a player ridiculously early, like a big name signing will come in and make three sub appearances with an average rating of 6.00 and the fans will say he was a waste of money. Ridiculous.

yeah thats my main gripe with said system, though the patch seems to have improved that slightly, fortunately the fans opinions on players rarely become a real issue for me, as the boards confidence in you seems to have little correlation to the fans opinions on certain players/signings, so whilst its annoying, you can ignore it and it usually wont come back to bite you on the arse.

Actually tbf its not so much the new signing confidence bit that riles me the most, its just the player form section, whilst it works well if you have a player who reguarly starts for you and is in a patch of good or bad form, the fans usually call that quite well, but when like you say you bring on a youngster or an extra defender to give experience or sure up the defence with about 5 mins left and you get a series of 6's you end up with all the "we think he should be given a rest of ease the pressure on him" or some crap like that, argh. Hopefully this will be revised for 09 (though I doubt i'll buy it)
