How Are You Doing On CM?

Yeah, as great as 01/02 was, I always felt it had too many players who were were pretty much Messi-esque in terms of how overpowered they were. Batistuta, Montella, Cassano, Totti, Vieri, Raul, Morientes, Van Nistelrooy, Mpenza, Crespo, Kezman, and probably a few others I am forgetting were all ridiculously good, and routinely scored about 30 goals a season each without fail.

Lazio and Roma were just stupidly tough on the whole actually. Pretty much the only way to stop either of them winning the Serie A/ Champions League was to buy their players from them.

Ronaldinho the most insane. Yeah it is the best CM ever but it is too easy when you can get players like that. I think I will have to go back and play as Brentford on it.

Haha, I remember I managed to get Brentford promoted to Division 1, as it was at the time, after getting Taribo West (of course) and a bunch of Swedish U-21 players on free transfers. Martin Rowlands and Michael Dobson were pretty good on that game actually, come to think of it. Gavin Mahon too.

But yes, Ronaldinho was ridiculous. There was one game I had with AC Milan where I had him, Vieira and Gattuso in midfield. Just smashed everyone without fail.

Ah yeah, and Kluivert. Two more to add to the list of unstoppables.

Even Francis Jeffers was far better than average, if I recall.

Bret Ormerod had finishing of 20 didn't he? Or have I made this up.
Haha, you're right, he did. I think so anyway. I seem to remember he had 20 acceleration and 20 pace as well. Robert Earnshaw was similar.

It's kind of funny that Thierry Henry, whilst not crap on the game, was definitely not as good as most of the strikers mentioned on this page, but yet turned out to be considerably better at his peak than most, if not all, of them.

Schalke's other striker was great, too. Sand, I think? Also some guy at Atalanta whose name escapes me atm.

Also the top players weren't the real gamebreakers, but the amount of cheap, young talent. You could basically overhaul and massively improve any team overnight for next to no money. Okoronkwo cost what, 250k from Shakhtar? Team him up with Clint Hill, Duff, and West and you'd have a defence set for your entire career for like 2m. Also wasn't 01/02 the one with overpowered Greek youth or am I confusing it with another edition?

Oh yeah haha, Fausto Rossini I think his name was. I think they had two other really good forwards as well actually. Cristiano Doni was really good as well - I think the game came out around the time people really rated him for some reason.

And yeah, I think the strong Greek youth team may have been in the 02/03 version, or even the ones that followed it.

Was it an earlier version that Robbie Keane was godlike on? Was still at Wolves so might've been.... so long ago.....

Pretty impressive.

To Madeira is an absolute god. 32 goals in 20 games in the Spanish 2nd Division for my Atleti team. Also just sorted out getting Tonton Zola Moukoko on a bosman (I miss that word). What a beast he was!

I thought transfer windows didn't come in until 02-03
Nope, I had one in January.

Found another CM gem. Sergey Nikiforenko. 23 year old Belarusian. Playing him as an AMC behind Madeira/Torres and he's been incredible. Signed for £400k, and has 20 goals and 5 assists in 15 starts. Average rating of 8.63. There's some ridiculous players on this version of the game!

Transfer windows may have been a part of various other European leagues by that time iirc. Definitely weren't a part of the Premiership at that time though.

Yeah, well I'm playing as Atletico, so that probably explains why I had one.

33 games played, won 26, drawn 6, lost 1. 100 goals scored, and on 84 points, 18 clear of 2nd place Oviedo. Coasting this Spanish 2nd division season and if I can further improve the squad in January with the signings of N'Diaye and a new CM to play alongside Kerr and Selakovic I should be challenging in La Liga too. Also in the Spanish Cup Semi Final. I managed to avoid Madrid and Barca who got drawn together, and have been drawn against Sporting Gijon, so should make the final and have a chance at winning it!

Won the Spanish 2nd Division in first season, also came runner up in the Spanish Cup. Then, after an indifferent start in La Liga where Madeira struggled to find the net I picked up form, finishing the season in 3rd level on points with Barca but falling short on goal difference. Depor won the league, their signing of Figo was massive, and both times we played them in the league he played amazing. In Summer I got rid of the last few average Atleti players that I started with, and made the signings of Costanzo, Beckham and Lunden. Have built a superb squad though, and should definitely be in major contention for the league title, and I'll be disappointed if I don't make it out of the 2nd CL Group stage (I forgot the CL used to have 2 group stages!). Nikiforenko is the key player. 25 goals and 8 assists last season, already has 6 goals in 4 this season. He's an absolute beast. Man I love this game!

Literally been playing FM all day (I'm that awesome). Completely dominated City and won 1-0, Martinez with 20 tackles and 13 interceptions, then got dominated by Spurs for an hour but managed to win 4-1. lolz. Next up is a trip to Arsene Wenger's Napoli...

Never gets picked by Arsenal on my game, but they did spend £20m on Icardi, then £35m on Benzema, then £30m on Lukaku, and have just spent £35m on Depay. Naturally Welbecks just signed a new contract, and gets pissy when I dont pick him for England as he's only played 4 league games all year.
