Again I think this was linked but not posted (like some of my early posts like SA v Eng 38/39) - Clem Hill plays a ball from Jimmy Sinclair to Charlie Llewellyn out of frame at point, who runs Victor Trumper out.

South Africa's rather unsuccessful England tour of 1947 opens at Worcester with fast-medium bowler Lindsay Tuckett bowling to Worcestershire's batsmen. Tufty Mann also shows up, but apparently the cinematographers (and England's batsmen) thought little of the rest of South Africa's bowling - which was extremely weak on this tour. Mitchell and Dyer then face the bowling of Reg Perks, who had played two tests before the war including one against SA.

I think the bowler at the end is just Geary again, but I'm not sure. It would be nice if it was Emmott Robinson though.

I assume you mean Macaulay, not Geary... I think you're right that it's him again at the end, looking at the run-ups.

It turns out that a lot of Pathé footage is not on youtube but is findable on their annoying site. There's quite a lot from the twenties although the quality is pretty low, and more from the late fifties too. Annoyingly 1/2 second more footage in one reel would have had Harold Rhodes who was caught up in the throwing controversy, but no dice. I have however found Peter Loader's hat trick against the West Indies in 1957:

I think at least part of the reason why a lot of the reels on the Pathé site aren't on youtube is because they are from other agencies that seem to be part of a Reuters archive.

I like the narrator attributing the fall of wickets after lunch to the King's visit. Also a rather eclectic bowling attack from England: Nichols, Wyatt, Hammond, T Mitchell, Verity, Langridge. Three spinners and only one bowler above medium pace.

Unfortunately a possible video with John Sharpe's century in the second test is missing. There is a video with the title but it's nothing to do with cricket and has been mislabelled.

Despite taking 14 wickets at 20.5 against WI David Brown would be dropped after the first test against NZ and never play another test despite being only 28 and playing another decade. One test later many-time stop gap allrounder Barry Knight would also be discarded.

I was surprised at that, but having looked it up, Hammond hadn't made a 50 since the Bodyline/NZ Tests of 1932-3, and hadn't made one at home since the 1931 series against NZ. (He then made 4 in that 1935 series and 2 hundreds the following summer. Bet the narrator felt a right idiot )

One extremely frustrating thing: there seems to be no footage at all from the West Indies' historic series against England in 1950, just a small amount from their tour match against Worcestershire and some net practice. Nor is there anything of Fred Trueman's destruction of India in 1952, or England vs South Africa in 1955 when Tyson was at his fastest for the last time. Compared to the reasonable, though still small, amount of surviving footage from some of the thirties tours it's pretty disappointing.

This is from Australia's tour of the West Indies in 1978, during WSC. It features such under appreciated cricketers as Wayne Clark with his dodgy action, Ian Callen, Trevor Laughlin (Ben's father) and Craig Serjeant. It also features at points Sylvester Clarke looking quite underwhelming. Again. The clips have no commentary but each has a good description.

I'm pretty sure I saw some footage of the 1950 England vs West Indies series on an old VHS tape that was released in the previous millennium. It may well not be online.

I don't know if there is any footage of the 1955 England vs South Africa series, but Tyson can be seen at his fastest in the documentary "On tour with Hutton's men", which was posted earlier in this thread. It covers the 1954/55 Ashes tour in which Tyson was at his very best.

I didn't think the Tyson footage was that great though. I'd like a bit more to judge him. The first video of Hutton series is blocked due to copywrong, at least here.
