Indian spinner now poor commentator Shivaramakrishnan. Got spelling wrong but he got a couple of 6 wicket hauls v England in opening series and then vanished.

Suresh Raina. Ugh, it's a shame that he had a test cap.
Did get a very very good 80 odd in West indies on our last tour. But yeah, he was disappointing. Expected him to turn out a bit better than what he did.... Low 40s player, atleast

Umer Akmal and Ishant Sharma though both have time to turn it around.Maye Aamer and Asif but obs for different reasons.

I'm going to mention Michael Hussey as a bit of a side note here. Had he not scored a ton in that shield game before the last Ashes in Australia he would almost certainly be the captain of this XI.

Not Terrible
Sinclair has to be one of the front runners for this, debuts with a Test double ton and ends up not being good enough to stay in the New Zealand team.

International Vice-Captain
Dwayne Smith - Debut hundred against Steyn and Pollock, scored at more than a run a ball. He just didn't develop at all from that point onwards.

Adrian Barath - Beautiful hundred on Test debut at the GABBA, where so many touring batsmen struggle. He also had an excellent FC record before his debut, but has suddenly completely lost the plot. I reckon he will come back at some stage and be a decent player but as it stands now he is worthy of a mention in this topic.

Nick Cook. Took loads of wickets and a ridiculously low average in his first 3 games, then nothing at all.
Jack Richards. Ashes ton in his second test but was barely seen after that series.

Guys like Bracewell and Hughes shouldn't qualify because their careers are far from over. Plenty of ****s come into the side waaay too young, fluke something amazing, then resume with sucking until their game matures.

Mark Greatbatch, along with Matt Sinclair for NZ. Matt Horne too although his early achievements were just a modest "almost 40 average" which counts as a huge success for an NZ opener.

Jimmy Adams averaged 84 after 15 tests, and 61 at the halfway point (27 tests) of his career. He averaged just 25 in the last half of his career.

I think a sure starter in a fizzling rocket xi would be Lawrence Rowe. A 200 and a 100 in his first test, and he still averaged 62 in his first 15 tests, but just 29 in his last 15.

Other batsmen whose second half of their careers really dragged down their averages were Mohsin Khan, Sadiq Mohammed, Roy Dias, Sherwin Campbell, Greg Blewett and Sanjay Manjrekar.

How far into a career before its too far? Richard Ellison had 5 tests then went large for 2 or 3 and his disappearance was equally as surprising.

Jimmy Adams is a candidate for sure, Not sure if Mendis really qualifies, but from perception he may be able to be added to the list.

Frank Tyson has to be up there. In the first 12 months of his Test career he played 10 matches, took 58 wickets and had one of the great Ashes series. Then he played just 7 more Tests spread over 4 years, taking just 18 wickets.

Ellison's nickname was "Plank" as in thick as two short planks - we had an Ellison in the team I used to play for - we called him "Log"

I think Imran Nazir is a good shout, he was 16 when he made his ODI debut and I remembered how impressed I was with him at the time. Just hasn't progressed since then.
