Hayden calls Harbhajan an obnoxious weed

Haha... " We were calling him a Wanker and he spat towards us"... oh WOW.. WTF did you expect you dumb ****. Is there any evidance that he did make these alledged Monkey gestures or spat towards the crowd ? Fells like aussies having a whinge now that their team lost ?
Imagine the uproar if Ishant had bowled a beamer like Brett Lee.
Would have been funny IMO. Sharma doesn't exactly look threatening, based on looks you'd expect him to be playing Playstation games in his mums basement wondering why girls don't like him. If he'd decked Hayden, who seems all brawn and no brain at least when it comes to the media, with a beamer it would have been hilarous.

The Australian fans are so spoilt. Win after win and they still wan't more. They lose a couple of games and the fans start to whine. I've read fans commenting that Ricky Ponting should retire. I'll tell every Australian supporter one thing, it's tough and an absolute roller coaster ride being an Indian supporter. You get to see really fantastic high's and terrible lows but we still love our side and back them until the very end.

Don't really like these generalisations on the Australian fans. If you want to refer to those people in the crowd, be specific. But 'aussies having a whinge now that their team lost' and 'The Australian fans are so spoilt' seems like everyone is getting tarred by the same brush because of some idiots in the crowd/forum/general internets. Not just these posts but many from both sides on the matter.

Couldn’t agree more with the above. Way, way beyond a joke now.

I liked your idea last week of just having Lee bowling to Tendulkar for the rest of the tour. Put Gilly behind the stumps and I reckon we’re set. Everyone else go home.

The cricket's been excellent and that's all that matters though. If people want to let every headline and petty incident get to them, then I'd suggest stop reading the papers and refreshing cricinfo every two seconds. I, for one will be a little sad when the series comes to an end. Could we have done without all the crap? Yes, for sure. But that doesn't mean so many fans should let it get to them to the extent that they want to see less of the two best cricketing nations going head to head. I can't help but think the tabloid-esque reporting of this series by the general media has had alot to do with this attitude. Just ignore it imo and focus on what's important, the cricket.

Its just a shame a series of this magnitude had to go through all this **** and this just doesn't seem to end, the media on both ends are cashing on this big time, trying to add gasoline in all the fire and they are just not letting that damn fire die, i just want to get over with this series, but when Australia tours India later this year, we better get ready for more ****.

Great article by Greg Baum.

"There are a lot of young people sitting here, and it was inappropriate," one spectator told The Age. "If he wants respect, he has to treat others with respect." This spectator, who was so concerned about young people and so insistent on the need for respect, was sitting in a crowd that in chorus was calling Harbhajan a "wanker".

Another spectator complained in the Herald Sun that Harbhajan spat in his direction, six or seven times. "Spitting is not on in my book," he said. "That's a bit out of line." This spectator, who was so upset by Harbhajan's demeanour, was wearing a fluorescent green T-shirt inscribed: "Monkey see … monkey do."

So the interaction between crowd and player can be summed up thus: crowd incites hothead to behave hotheadedly, then feigns offence at his hotheadedness. Crowd reserves right to deliver invective, but not to receive it. The spectator was right: that was no place for the young and impressionable

Yes, good post that. If a crowd is giving a player a rollicking, then what really do they expect? I heard on the radio this morning some people there were calling him an Indian Monkey, and it was in response to this that he made his gesture.

It sounds to me like he was playing up to the corwd, who had given him a hard time. I'm really no fan of his, but in this instance I can't say he is to blame if the crowd is giving him a hard time in a racial way.

So long as you have Gilly miked up  oh and Hussey, Mitch, Rohit & Chawla can joing in as well :p

Also, despite the fact that I think HB Singh is a dolt, I honestly feel partially sorry for the bloke. The whole spitting thing was ****ing ridiculous, omg he spat water on the ground, something he's probably done every match of his career whilst in the field after he's had a drink.... GTFO media, and concentrate on the cricket for once...

all speculation, i read on other websites they were calling him much worse than that

But who do we believe? We dont even know if the incident even really happened...

its just that the crowd gets greater media attention differently in different countries i guess

Not necessarily. There have been efforts here to address crowd behaviour, especially at ODIs where there has been a more boorish element than at tests.
Indeed, there was talk a few years back that if the MCG crowd behaviour did not improve, its hosting rights for matches would have been reviewed.
Certainly though, in recent months the crowd behaviour in India has been the subject of a lot of discussion on the threads and in the media. Still, I don't believe Australian crowds, and especially ODI crowds, have a very good record either.

Edit: having said that, it was great to see the crowds give Murali a great round of applause when he bowled in what may be his last match here last week. Thought that was great, and I believe (though of course cannot know) that he seemed really happy about that when he was interviewed after the game. ind of restores a bit of hope in people, and then you hear two days later about the crowds in Sydney.

It is very likely that crowds take some of their cues from players. Certainly most of the players and most of the audience are well behaved and enjoy their cricket, in India and in Australia.

If you clamp down hard on poor player behavior, I think there's every chance of crowd behavior improving as well. Players are paid employees and hence much more easily subjectible to codes of conduct regarding on field sledging, gesturing and off field media interaction.

Hayden, Symonds,Harbhajan, Sreesanth, Nel, Gibbs - all need their feet help to the fire.
We need the Lees, Husseys, Tendulkars, Dravids, to be the role models to emulate in terms of player behavior.

In both finals, Australia's best batting chance was during the substantial partnerships between Hayden and Symonds. In both cases , partnership was broken during Harbhajan's bowling , who accounted for both of them (2nd finals, Hayden to a run out that he was part of) . The second final happened at the homeground of these Queenslanders.

In case anyone missed this.
