i think during the boof as coach era i would regularly hope that we’d get humbled overseas (except in the ashes) because i couldn’t stand the type of cricket that we played, in part the faux tough sort of schtick, but also just the rolling out of teams that clearly couldn’t be arsed learning how to play overseas. that whitewashing against the lanks where herath brilliantly played the role of wallet inspector’s still one of my favourite series of all time

The main time I cam remember cheering on a non-NZ player v NZ was in the 2001 ODI series decider between NZ and Zimbabwe, when Heath Streak smashed 80 odd at Eden Park and got them over the line in the last over. I lived in Zimbabwe for 3 years as a kid and meet Streak once at a tour function for the visiting NZ team. He was such a lovely guy.
