Piscine is a good bloke to most and you have just insulted him with derogatory terms while he has stopped "Motson" is hardly an insult some may even take it as a compliment.
What some people take it as isn't important. It's what the person who uses it means by it and whether the person who it is aimed at is offended. I am also lead to believe that Scaly once compared Richard to Hitler, though I haven't seen the post where he supposedly did so myself.

Both vegetarians tbf, so he did have a point.

I think Motson's pretty dire, especially when he's commentating on the World Cup. I still listen to him though, but more to laugh at him saying stupid things than anything.
May be a generational thing then. Most of my mates are mid-twenties to early-thirties so we grew up with Motty. Think there's no doubt he's not the force he once was, but we still remember his halcyon days.

Possibly I made it out to be worse than it was, but anyway... here it is, form your own judgements.

I don't know how you do it Rodgie, but nearly everytime you try to make a serious post someone tells you to shut up.

Richard - if you care to take on my unsolicited opinion, you're not doing yourself any favours in this thread or in your now largely one-sided slanging match with Scaly. You're one of the best posters on the site in general, and I really admire your willingness to argue the point and not the man in most cases. But you're coming across as petulant and childish in this thread. If you don't want to be having this argument with SP, then stop responding to him and stop insulting him. You can say "if I see something I disagree with, I reply to it", but that's a cop out - its presumably not an involuntary action on your part, you CHOOSE to respond, and therefore choose to keep it running. This is school-yard "he started it" level stuff, and doesn't do the forums any favours.

The thought has crossed my mind re-reading the thread.

But anyhow - no, it's not an involuntary action, but seriously - someone throws rubbish your way, what's the standard response? Take it, or throw it back? It's not playground logic, it's simple human-being logic.

Sorry mate - its playground logic. Didn't anybody ever explain the "stick and stones may break my bones" thing to you? In reality there are plenty of times when someone says something you dislike and the best course is to just let it slide unless you're prepared to get into a whole thing with them. People who can't or won't do that either come across as insecure or overly aggressive in most walks of life. There are plenty of posters on this site who get a bit of abuse thrown at them from time to time and most just ignore it without losing anyone's respect - in fact its normally the person who resorts to insults who loses cred.

Honestly, I think its only the fact that you make such a big deal about how wounding being called Motson is that leads anyone to continue to mention it. If you acted like you didn't care, it would disappear pretty quickly.

To reaffirm, I'm not taking sides, or seeking to have a go at you. I just think its a pity you let yourself get hung up on this stuff - your cricket related posting makes for much better reading!

First of all, this doesn't really belong here in CC...

Second of all, completely agree with Matt79. Especially since he last came back, Richard's seemed more interested in point-scoring at SP's expense. It smacks of "He did it first, so I have open slather".

Agreed. Richard, leave him alone even if you think he's a ****. You contribute a lot more when you talk about cricket instead of SP.

true...but he's not helping the situation either, is he?:)
Haha I don't have a problem with it. Just finding it amusing that the thread went from "we love you Richard" to a Dr Phil style "get real".

No, it's not - I don't see that his having a go at me is any less "bad" just for being further ago than my most recent similar posts.
Because the key point that you were saying (and these are your exact words) is:

I just don't see how you can seriously believe he's let it go.
Which seeing as he has stopped, suggests to me that he has, yet you persist in your attacking of him.
