Waqar? His peak was surreal.
an insane peak aided by bottlecaps but even then English and Australians found a way around him, he was a Andy Caddick level bowler for 60% of his career and doesn't have anything for Anderson's longetivity.

Like that was the dumbest ****ing thing ever. I'm seeing him in top 10 lists, and I mean cricketers not only bowlers.

That's what happens when we take this longevity bullshit too far.
Part of the reason guys like Anderson and Root get overrated is because England haven’t produced any bonafide ATG batsmen/bowlers since 1970

Was it actually proved?

One of the reason I have Akram/Waqar lower than other fast bowling legends is because I don’t trust them 100%

The last great batsman from England was Ken Barrington so obviously they will be excited they finally have an ATG player.

England ATGs : Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Barrington, Compton, Trueman,

England ATGs in last 50 years : Boycott & Root.
That’s it.

It's one of those things that is pretty obvious, back then everyone tampered a little bit but Pakistan did it extremely to the point Imran's own teammate in Qadir was annoyed by it, also, look at the home and away disparencies of Waqar and Imran.

That’s one of the reasons why Sarfaraz Nawaz’s 7-1 is not considered as impressive as Curtly Ambrose’s 7-1

Guys like Compton and Boycott are English greats for sure but I wouldn’t rate them as ATGs personally. You missed Hutton though who is definitely an ATG.

Harry Brooks
A great entertainer

English ATG batters are Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Hutton, you can make an argument for May, Barrington and then Root.

English ATG bowlers would be uhhh hmm Barnes, then Laker (among spinners), Trueman and then Anderson.

I (weirdly) restrained myself from posting this comparison earlier today, I didn't realise there was already a thread.

I imagine that watching Brook now might be like watching Viv back in the day - 40 years down the track old timers are waxing lyrical about how "this extraordinary talent changed the game" but actually if you watched at the time you'd know it was just some **** slogging
