Top post.
Has slightly more of an argument than the one he responded to, at least.

40/60 chance imo. Basically even without Germany, who might even mess up because they don't have a right back, or second central defender and their keeper just went AWOL.

Germany never mess up in the early stages of a World Cup. They're guaranteed a place in the second round.

Australian 31-man Squad

Michael Beachamp, Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Nick Carle, David Carney, Scott Chipperfield, Jason Culina, Brett Emerton, Adam Federici, Eugene Galekovic, Richard Garcia, Vincenzo Grella, James Holland, Brett Holman, Mile Jedinak, Brad Jones, Joshua Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Shane Lowry, Scott McDonald, Mark Milligan, Craig Moore, Lucas Neill, Jade North, Thomas Oar, Nikita Rukavytsya, Mark Schwarzer, Carl Valeri, Dario Vidosic, Luke Wilkshire, Rhys Williams
Will be intruiged to see who does get cut. Hoping to see Moore, Holman, Galecovic & Holland cut though, and suspect Oar, Beauchamp & Rukavytsya might get the chop as well.

Moore wouldn't get cut would he? I think Tommy Oar will get the final spot. Decent looking squad, no real surprises.

Djite wasn't getting enough game time to make the squad I think. Not many forward options in the squad. Reckon they have to go with McDonald, Vidosic and Rukavytsya will all have to go. Reckon it will be the midfield and defence where the players get cut. My tip would be:
- Beachamp (hasn't played much in the qualifiers and reckon he only made the squad due to injuries)
- Galekovic (only there to give the other keepers a back up in friendlies)
- Garcia (same as Beachamp)
- Holland (not ready and there is other midfielders)
- Milligan (don't think he is first choice player and they will give Williams and Lowry a run cus they cover more positions)
- North (same as Milligan)
- Oar (same as Holland, probably not ready and there other midfielders)

How bad is Ballack's injury?

Sister over in Germany at the moment, and she's pretty excited by it all. Country to be in mourning if they lose, and they'll just be doing what's expected if they win.

A blessing in disguise, he was not the Ballack of old.
But in big tournaments he is always the man for germany, especially during knockout stages. Still backing germany though, they have the best influx of young talent in a while.

After Italy won it last time I'd never say never, but would be quite a sizeable turn up if Jerry won the whole thing.

Talk is Essien might also be out, or low on fitness. They are running scared. Just need a key Serbs to get shot down. Come Vidic it has been a long season, you need to rest up for the next PL season.

Shouldn't read too much into what the media saying. But it looks like these 15 have booked there spot for South Africa:
Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, David Carney, Scott Chipperfield, Jason Culina, Brett Emerton, Adam Federici, Vincenzo Grella, Brad Jones, Joshua Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Craig Moore, Lucas Neill, Mark Schwarzer, Luke Wilkshire

Leaving the following shoot outs for the final spots:
- 2 x Backup CB (Beachamp, Milligan, North)
- Backup RB (Williams, Lowry)
- Backup DM (Jedinak, Valeri)
- Backup RW (Holman, Garcia, Holland)
- Backup LW (Oar, Carle)
- 2 x Backup FW (Vidosic, Rukavytsya, McDonald)

Reckon the guys in the bold will get their names in the final 23.

Reckon it harsh to pick between Valeri and Jedinak, as both have done good jobs when called. But if it means one more attack minded player or an extra centre back, then we need those types of players more.

Reckon Oar, Vidosic and Rukavytsya will get ahead of Carle and McDonald. They fit into the formations better. Unless Pim looks for players off the bench that he can call on to change the formation. But I don't think that is in his plans and he will go with their pace off the bench along with Holman and Carney.
