International Coach
Kane at 3 steadying the ship feels like a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy because it puts all the pressure on his partner to hit out. He has a career strike rate of about 104 in the powerplay which isn't enough even for an anchor.

Now watch him save us with 70 off 50

Tuned in at the start of this innings, and NZ look properly rusty. Tricky opponent to have to face with no game time.

Yeah I think Kane's powerplay batting is always what has needed the most work. Just milking the middle overs is fine for his role but he needs to find more gaps in the first six overs.

Not KW’s brightest moment with the slip in there.

Guess there’s no substitute for proper game time, the decision to allow the team to come in cold looking pretty silly. Take nothing away from Afghanistan though, they look properly up for this.

love the nz boys and such a powerful looking squad on paper

gotta question their motivation and hunger tho....really dull and poor body language all the way through....do they really wanna be here? kane and stead have always had a such a malaise-like personality and clearly this team has took it on...

fire up boys! (oh and try playing more cricket + warm ups before a tournament)

Stead should have been replaced about 18 months ago. No warm up games, while those ‘leave no stone unturned’ Aussies found a way to play some using coaching staff to make up numbers. Sick of hearing the commentators say NZ look rusty, out of touch, out of synch, and umpteen different variations of the same thing. NZC only have themselves to blame, as usual.

Full credit to Afghanistan but have to question NZs prep. Since the end of the NZ home summer the XI that played today have played a combined total of 55 T20 games in 3 months. Boult and Mitchel account for 29 of the 55. Allan, Conway and Phillips all no games in that time and Williamson with 2. Hardy ideal for 4 of your top 5.
