No, but it's makes a huge difference and is a major bonus in having him in the side
Yeah, I've always just hated the "It doesn't matter if he's not scoring any runs because he's such a good fielder" line. Bat him at 11 if that's why he's in the side.

Personally I like Vincent, especially as a test player, and I'd certainly be picking him in the side at the moment. But I just hate it when a batsman is failing miserbly with the bat and deserves to be dropped (not the case this time..) and then someone says "He should be kept in the side because he's such a good fielder" when they really mean "He should be kept in the side because I like him and I think he'll come good but I can't think of a good argument for it."

What would you have done if Astle kept failing in WC? He failed very badly in the recent matches! Think we are better than we were before down the line.

And that has anything to do with my post because..... ?
Yes, because Astle was also failing miserably and we dont have any alternative to go with Vincent and we are lucky enough to get a good fielder to field in a gully position where lot of runs are required to be saved all the runs are very vital.

Also Runs saved will always be runs scored!

lol @ saying veto and vincent suck....

Veto has not been the best in the last few games.. but hes hardly a bad bowler.. infact hes a great bowler.. (Granted out of a bit of form at the mo)

And what is wrong with vincent ?? ok sure he has looked shakey this WC so far.. but how bout the series before the world cup ??

Short memory imho

Long for mine.

A few good games in the CBS does not offset an entire career of utter mediocrity. Vincent has a hell of a lot to do before he gets on an even footing in ODI cricket.

I never compared to Vincent to Astle. I even said that I liked Vincent and I'd have him in the team! I just don't like your arguments for doing so. You know who's also a good fielder? Hamish Marshall. But his batting has gone down the toilet so he's not in the side. If Vincent's batting goes down the toilet, he should get dropped as well. I don't care how good a fielder he is.

Interested by that ranking. Would love an explanation of how he achieved it. Perhaps I will have to hit up statsguru and get my regular fix
This has been pointed out before, but anyway. Vettori's form has been good for quite a while now; both in terms of wickets and economy rate. See here for evidence that his efforts in his last 90 ODIs have been very classy indeed - note only 8 of those games have been against "minnows".

Yes Prince, Because the Marshalls are not in form, we need to stick with Vincent and thats what I am trying to say . I always said we need to stick with him and try to support him and thats what we can do now.

Which was exactly my point in fact.

It has nothing to do with his fielding - and all to do with the fact that you think he'll come good with the bat. As is often the case when people bring fielding into the debate.

For the record - and for at least the third time - I like Vincent and I think he should be in the side.

Lou Vincent's recent form has been good enough to suggest he's better than some in here are suggesting. Only two innings vs minnows in that filter, and one of them was a duck anyway.
