Mabbout up front was pretty useless in possession. No touch, no pass and a lack of awareness of both where the game/teammates were and where he should be. He's playing just to run about I guess. The young kid looks really good and could be worth a start next up.

Disagree pretty strongly with this tbh. Thought he had some really good touches, particularly in the first half. He's still got a bit to work on but offered far more than Juric did and Cahill would in the formation we're playing. Not sure why he's getting panned.

His shoulder looked bad so it'll probably all be academic come Tuesday.

I'm just reading up on Australia's slim task of progressing. ESPN tells me the tiebreaker system is

2. Goals scored
3. Head-to-head points
4. Head-to-head goal difference
5. Head-to-head goals scored
6. Fair play points
7. Drawing of lots

Aren't points 4 and 5 redundant because if 1 is equal and 2 is equal then the only way in which 3 is equal is a draw and then 4 and 5 will be equal. Maybe I am not understanding something or maybe I have just learned that ESPN is not a good source of soccer knowledge. Which is it?

Some part of me is really hoping things pan out that lots are drawn. There would be no better way to cry about not making the cut than if lots were drawn. I'm having to deal with my wife going on and on about how bad Morocco has been stiffed. First it was Iran and how they played a crappy unattacking football and needed Morocco to score their only goal with a superb header in the last minute of the game. Then it was that Pepe prick and his pathetic prickness not being picked up and the refusal to use the VRS to disallow Ronaldo's goal. Then it was something or other with the Spanish last night (I don't know - I have now tuned off to her whinging). A loss in the drawing of lots would allow me to trump her big time in the conspiracy theories to make sure the popular teams advance.

I'd say we'd be in front there, because of our reputation as a very fair side, compared with the likes of France and Denmark for example, who don't at all go around throwing themselves on tot he ground when a light zephyr passes them by.
