It appears we've lost the ability to work singles. The first 20 overs were galling to watch - hitting fours were our only option for scoring. Ridiculous. I'm off to bed.

This is beyond a joke - NZ have had no game plan.
If you only have 60 runs after 20 overs then what do you expect? Scratch around a bit more, loose a few more wickets, then you have no chance of posting a competitive score.

When's the last time McCullum has only scored 9 runs off 30 balls?

When you have a top order packed with batsman who average under 30 then I suppose this is what's going to happen every other match......We have had ample time to bood new batsman but the same old codgers are getting selected when it comes to the crunch time

Oh, okay. :p Hopefully he will be just fine for that at least, although I'd rather he bat well than bowl well, personally.

EDIT: Bond gone. This is horrid.

Patel farming the strike? :p
Oh, now I see the tractic: Make Sri Lanka think we're crap and then have the last two bat out the overs and post a good target. Brilliant.

After being 9 down for 118 I'm really quite happy with 165. SL obviously the favourites but at least they'll have to do a bit of work to get the runs, and if Bond can cause some early damage or if Mills can provide some early wickets like he did against SA you never know what could happen.

18 off the over :D

The tactic is working.
19 i thought.

Anyway it was an excellent performance fro NZ after 118/9, Vettori was simply brilliant.. Vaas wasn't all that good today, he was relatively expensive with alot of extra's and so on..

Still, Sri Lanka did let New Zealand off the hook towards the end. "Given the state of the pitch, could it be said Sri Lanka have come unstuck?" laughs Martin Williamson, clutching his stomach. Well, New Zealand have got themselves out of a sticky patch and have Vettori to thank for providing the glue. Ouch.
Oh dear. :p

Haha, really? That's amusing.

Not the greatest start to defending a low total, but hopefully we'll rip in shortly.
