Great Run Chases

I thought I'd start this topic in order to congratulate Victoria in their chase today of over 450. They did it easy with over 10 overs to go. A great innings of 212 not out by David Hussey (where did he spring from - what a great seaon he is having) lead the way.

Just last week in the Sri Lankan domestic competition Central Province successfully chased 513 for victory in 122.3 overs, winning with one wicket to spare, which i think is a record of some description. Southern Province were on the losing side on that occasion. They are currently playing North Central Province and are 0/172 chasing 491 going into the final day, with Jayasuriya (114 off 90) and Atappatu (53) at the crease.

Well done Victoria - It is always good when the Blues lose.

It wasn't like the Blues had their chances. Harwood was dropped twice - a sitter from Mark Waugh and a difficult C&B by MacGill. With Victoria still needing over 20 runs to win.

How good has David Hussey been this year!!

750 or so run's at over 100 and a strike rate that maust be in the 80's.

I Cant beleve how WA left this guy out of there team for so long thank god he moved to Victoria.

can't remember the exact details of this, someone from WA would be better placed.

About 5-6 years ago in the first grade grand final, one team was 9 for about 120/130 chasing a total either around 300 or around 400. The had numbers 9 and 11 i think who had top scores for the season of 15 and 10 or something like that and ended up chasing down the total to win the competition.

One of the batsmen was definately Brad Olroyd (played a little bit for WA during the late 90's).

A bit sketchy on the details, but you get the idea. Those two were getting mightily drunk that night :)

the best run chase I have seen (on tv in full) is Australia v Pakistan, Bellerive Oval 1999/2000....Australia was chasing about 360 odd to win and were 5/126 or something at the end of day 4...gilchrist and langer got us there though.....

another one was the West Indies chasing that 400+ against Australia last year.....I only saw bits and pieces of that and it was very good!

I was pretty annoyed Australia managed to win that one. Langer edged one clearly if I remember correct and the umpire didnt give it out. Pakistan should have won that won I felt.

One of the best run chases has to be South Africa vs Australia St George's Park, Port Elizabeth 6 April 2002 ODI Match.

South Africa scored 3/326 (50 overs)
Smith 84 (103)
Kallis 80* (59)
Rhodes 71* (50)

Australia chased and won with 7/330 (49.1 overs) :D
Ponting 92 (107)
Lehmann 91 (94)
Gilchrist 52 (34) :wow:

That was an amazing chase and Australia were doing it easy most of the way.

the wc 99 semi final i think it was, when swaugh made the 120*....that went down to the wire, and it was a joy to watch...had every1 on the edge of their seats the whole nite....it was 2am here when the game finished...my dad who doesn't usually stay up to watch cricket, and who had work at 5 am the following morning and dearly loves his sleeep even stayed up to watch the whole game...and left disappointed coz he's an indian supporter and absolutely hates the aussies winning :P

For me personally, in ODI's it's definitely England vs. India in the Natwest Final. India looked absolutely gone, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid all out. Then from no where Kaif and Yuvraj play the innings' of their careers to get India the win. I'll never forget Kaif on strike with Yuvraj (batting beautifully) at the non-striker's end. Ganguly was signalling for Kaif to get a single the next ball. So what does Kaif do? He hits a six in the direction Ganguly was sitting. I loved that game.

Regarding test matches it was the West Indies record breaking run chase against Australia in 2003. I was supporting the WI all the way hoping Lara would bring them home with a big century and he did just that. Great match even though Australia had already won the series.

Lara only got a half-century though.
