Great Northern looks like a strong team. Interested to see how they'll go on the turner at the Yippie Dome, though.

Tough Opener for the Men from the North

Having been handed a tough opening assignment down under at the Yippie Dome, GNCC will be out to try and get their League for the Ages campaign off to a decent start. Due to the dustbowl qualities of the Yippie pitch the management have elected to leave out pacers Higgs and Mohammed along with Ulyett, Mashud and Reid. Much will be expected of the mercurial Kline, with Sobers expected to assist in the spin department. Tyson may still prove lethal, whilst the batting is strenghtened by Sanath Jayasuriya, who may also turn his arm over.

The great West Indian Sobers, looking in prime form in the nets, has been appointed captain for the inaugral match. He will be ably assisted by Vice Captain Sunil Gavaskar and the inspiring Ames behind the wicket.

It may be helpful to the side to go into the first match as underdogs, with the opposition having world class spinners seemingly coming out of the woodwork, but there is still a weight of expectaition on their shoulders that they should not embarrass themselves. With Sobers at the helm hovever, embarrassment should not be on the radar.
