Greame Hick the australia batting coach

SteveNZ

International Coach
I absolutely think we should judge him on the first innings of the first Test match of the summer.

Not good enough, Graeme.

Whilst I'm still not convinced that Australia's batting woes in this series so far are due to Hick being their coach, I'll admit that he's had pretty much as bad a start to his tenure as you could reasonably imagine for Australia's batting coach.

How quickly do Australia normally like to ditch a coach after a few bad performances?

Bob Simpson started coaching Australia in the mid-80s and was persisted with beyond the team becoming number one in 1995.

Lehman not fit to carry Simmo's jock strap, as either player, coach or gentleman, mind you.

Not really. It's not as if these haven't already been happening before he took over the role. It's been 2 Tests FFS

You cant blame Hick for what's happening here no matter how you spin it. As tempting as it is to shitcan English players from the 90s, we need to look at the crap in our own backyard at the moment. None of this is Hick's doing.

His insane FC record in England should imbibe him with some knowledge on playing the swinging/seaming ball, which is precisely what we need.

Australia have always been weak against pace + movement; even in the hallowed era of Australian cricket, Allan Donald/Waqar Younis/Wasim Akram/Curtly Ambrose/Shane Bond could all put Australia under pressure. It's exacerbated at the moment because so few of the Aussies are going over to county cricket like they used to, and Australia have aggressive batsmen across every position except perhaps Nevill.

The wider issue is that Australian's just don't know how to leave the ball six out of six. They've lost that from the days of Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor, Allan Border who would happily leave everything outside their off stump if the ball was doing something.

What is his role ?

Seriously would like to know., so we can see where the problem lies.

Is it showing/teaching/advising the test level players how to bat in the conditions they are playing in and style of bowling they are facing ?

If it is he has the job badly.

If the players aren't taking his advice, he has done the job badly.

If that is not his job what is it ?

Yours Curiously

Whatever it takes!!!
Agent Hick deserves to be knighted, tbh... He is executing the mission perfectly.. James Bond or Ethan Hunt 's got nothing on him. :p

"Greame Hick? His name's Graeme, slippy!"

"Well, Smudge, the guys he coaches have got long and complicated names like Khawaja and Hazlewood, it seems a pity really for this middle-aged man to miss out. I reckon I'll just go on calling him Greame."

"Jeez, you're ****ed in the head sometimes, slippy".
