Grand Slam Draft Tournament

Mister, I am so glad you didnt pick Blewett as opener. I knew at the time his average fell away, but he really was a poor opener.

I used to love Blewett at 6 - think 1995 Caribbean.
Yeah, he's basically the only guy in my side who had any success at 3, even though he had his most success at 6 of course

Did well at 3 in the '97 ashes

And yeah I remember him sucking as an opener in 99/2000 when everyone else in the side was killing it. I guess coz we we were beating everyone at that time his place wasn't in too much danger but it's what really killed his average

Really surprised Vettori took less than 68 catches in his career. He must've played well over 100 tests.

Ditto Ramps and Jonty too, actually. Were both gun fielders in their days.

Guessing Hick must've done or was he considered and passed over?

Yeah I was surprised Hick was off the table

Ramps or Crawley was a hard choice for me. Crawley had a better test record really but Ramps hit 100 FC tons and still somehow seems better in my mind

I didnt consider Ramps or Crawley but I did look at your Aussie top 3 and Ranatunga too (you picked Rhodes before I had thought about bats).

I considered Phil Hughes. I thought about Shahid Afridi since he averaged as good as anyone and offered something different with the ball. I thought about Merv Dillon. I did consider a few current players like KL Rahul, Brendan Taylor, Kusal Mendis, Mark Wood.

How about you mister?

I considered Phil Hughes too, and all 3 of Afridi, Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood but Klusener just seemed slightly better. That 8fer on debut swayed me despite doing little after with the red ball

Despite Gatting being probably the only guy with 10 tons or more to be eligible, in my mind he's this old fat guy who Warne made look a fool lol

Karaunaratne was inieligble by like 0.01 run I thought going by your average parameters. Otherwise I would have picked him

I thought about Tait as well to counter your Malinga pick but ultimately decided against it

Yeah ultimately I felt wrong picking Karuratne or Mendis. Actually yeah I thought about Mahmood especially and Razzaq a bit.

Haha Gatting definitely had some good moments but yeah from an Aussie POV its the Warne delivery and reverse sweep in the WC Final that you think of.
