Who is the better test batsman?

Difficult, haven't decided.

Thorpe was a useful, gritty middle order batsman who could anchor.

Gilchrist, a pure batsman too and who could easily take the game away.

Unreal disrespect to thorpe. Gilchrist was a walking wicket against half decent lateral movement. Wouldn't have averaged anything above 40 in the 90s. Massively overrated test bat if anything

Neither did Thorpe tbf. Sub 40 average at the turn of the millennium. Really brought it back in the noughties. Then again, the noughties was when Gilchrist played so think it's close.
