I’m usually not a fan of analysis by checklist but Gooch’s record against WI is too hard to look past. I think he probably did enough to be better than Hayden and Sehwag.

Gooch is the only one with an ATG innings against an ATG attack haha
I didn't see this live but from what I gather from robelinda"s extended highlights, Marshall was past his peak at least pacewise, Patterson was not the same firesnorting horse from the 80s, and Walsh was as workmanlike as ever, with only Ambrose looking like a truly fearful proposition. Brilliant and legendary names all, but is this innings viewed with somewhat rosetinted glasses?

There was also Sabina Park and Kensington Oval (1981). They were v fitter attacks in their prime and in their own conditions.

The conditions played a role in the Headingley knock's legacy (reflected by the scorecard) - but the 1981 tour goes under the radar as a result. He played three knocks v WI that could qualify as ATG and succeeded in 5 out of 6 series v the WI juggernaut.
