Glenn McGrath - Batsman

Fiery

Banned
Tall, thin shaven-headed Martin is a bowler, pure and simple. He's not a particularly good fielder, and he's a number eleven batsman who would go even lower in the order if there were any lower to go. I've always warmed to cricketers like him who don't seem naturally sporty at all, but have this one rather odd aptitude of being able to bowl highly effectively.

Alan Mullally was a better batsman than 2 who once played in the same team as him!

Philip Tufnell and Edward Giddins. Now Giddins truly was God-awful.

If Most people bowled to McGrath they wouldn't conceed a run
Ignoring the humour, they would. They'd get pretty much slaughtered by him. McGrath could probably play as a specialist bat at a decent club level over here, if not Premier League than second or third tier.

I wouldn't go quite so far as "get slaughtered" but yeah, Stephen Harmison played for Ashington Seconds as a batsman when he missed half a season with injury.

It's an interesting article but a bit harsh. No-one can deny he has improved as a batsman (someone once wrote early in his career that a box placed in front of the stumps would be more useful) but in ODIs he rearely gets the chance to show it as Australia are so good he rearely has to bat and when he does get in he plays safe to makle sure they bat out the 50 overs. He might get more opportunity this time if Tait plays though - its not just Gilchrist that doesn't rate Tait's batting - in the Oval Test of 2005 he batted at No 10 above Tait again and got another duck. Actually I can only think of three batsmen who've batted below him for Australia when all the team is fit - Tait, MaGill, and Scott "can't bowl, can't throw" Muller - their batting must be bad. But Chris Martin is a far worse batsman IMO - there's more chance of Dwayne Leverock winning slimmer of the year than of Martin scoring a Test 50
