But it's true though Sobers played against mostly weak Indian attacks. Gupte took an innings 9-fer once, but was mid against them otherwise. The next best bowler he heavily played was Mankad, who while good is hardly worth writing home about on bowling alone. Weekes, Hunte, Kanhai all scored tons and murdered them. Even in 71 we won not for bowlers but Gavaskar and Sardesai matching th batting bravados of Sobers and co.

in 1958 — Mankad, Gupte, Nadkarni was also decent tho not a wicket taker and he slaughtered them on turners, the games were all pretty relative until Sobers took it all away bar 1958 Eden Garden. He also made three tons against the Quaret in 71, also played the Quaret very well in the 66-67 series etc, it's a very good record imo.

his work against Pakistan is also exclusively slaughtering Fazal who you know I rate very highly, almost like Bedser to me

I am more or less confident Gupte>Benaud was a dig at Benaud for him rating Kanhai higher. Not sure why he rated him over Warne though.
