Gary Ballance retires from all cricket after brief Zimbabwe comeback

Doesn't Jadeja have like 5 triple centuries yet bats 7/8 in international cricket.

Think that tells me a lot about the Indian FC game.
Jadeja had 2 or 3 FC triples early on and a big 250* I think than did nothing with the bat in international cricket for ages. Right now he's India's best all conditions bat bar pant in red ball and one of the best allrounders in the world, just took him a bit to figure out his batting at the international level.

Jadeja was batting 5 in the last series and averages like 50 in the last few years. He has a better defensive technique than most specialist batsmen frankly.
I'm not doubting Jadeja talent as international cricketer I'm commenting on the FC game in India. Using him as an example.

Jedi Brah said England is the worst FC competition in the world yet Jadeja scored multiple triple hundreds and had to bat 8 in Indian side for a long time. If the FC competition so much better than in England he'd he'd had have been batting top 5 his whole career.

I've seen people posting stats of someone averaging over 80 in FC cricket in India yet can't get a game in the test team. A team which has had Kohli Pujara and Rahane averaging under 30 for a prolonger period.

So early on and did nothing at international level. Almost like the FC game not preparing Indian cricketers for international cricket. Which was my point against Jedi Brah claiming England worst FC competition.

Harry Brook averaged over 100 in FC cricket in 2021 comes in and starts better than anyone in the history of test cricket.

How has this become yet another thread about Jadeja?

I've lost track of the Yorkshire racism saga. Was Ballance the guy who supposedly thought using the P-word was affectionate banter among friends?

He's clearly the GOAT if even an English fan brings him into the discussion on a Ballance retirement thread.

Yes on the latter. Joe Root claimed to never witness anything racist at Yorkshire despite living with him. I still find his statement quite ridiculous.

Plenty of people take time to figure out international cricket, particularly redball coming from FC at a young age. In test you have to face the same bowler 3-4 games straight across a ~month period where at FC level you play a team once-twice over a few months. If a bowler gets on top of you early in a series at test level its alot worse than fc cricket. Your also facing more complete attacks so you can't just block and then target the weak links in the attack, which is why you see so many shield bat's with a high boundary % struggling to convert to test level IMO. Ranji may be a bit of a joke, but from memory jadeja made alot of his runs against the better ranji teams and other people didn't make runs in those games. His issue wasn't ranji being bad at preparing people for the next level IM0.

Almost like making a load of runs in the world's worst domestic first-class competition doesn't mean anything
I agree that runs in county cricket are no guarantee of test success, but not sure it's something unique to first class cricket in England.

Ballance had a big technical flaw, brutally exposed at test level. County bowling just didn't have enough bowlers bowling consistently good enough to expose and take advantage of it. IIRC he was not quite as effective when he returned to the ranks at Yorkshire compared to before he was called up.
