Ganguly fined 80% of match fees

OK the Indians bowled a little slowly and so they were fined 15% each and Sourav Ganguly was fined 30% since he is the captain. But what is this extra 50% fine for Ganguly for "time wasting"? What did he do? And also why do some of you ppl say that Yuvraj was faking an injury? I'm sorry I didn't see that part of the match.

I would like to end by saying even though Ganguly was fined 80%, he still rocks!! And he's already rich...so it doesn't matter!

i'm guessing it was the shoe cleaning incident, where he just sat down, and took his own sweet ass time cleaning his shoes...(the crowd were fully booing him) then casually walked up to his run up, played with the field and then finally bowled

he also at one stage put in a first slip, and then just b4 he was about to bowl, changed his mind, and moved the slip back to where he was b4...wasting another few minutes

yuvraj "injured" his right hip,and walked off very very very slowly...this infuriated ricky ponting...who then got out next ball, followed by damian duck martyn...

yuvraj then came back on the field later, and fielded at his customary position, and then proceeded to make a rather good save, diving on his injured hip

i'm not sure wehter he was injured or faking, but he did take along time walking off

oh i see lol thats some funny stuff right there :D

why was yuvraj faking (if he was faking) anyway? Was it ganguly who told him to?

To be fair to Yuvraj, he may have suffered cramp - after all, he spent most of the afternoon batting in intense heat and then spent an evening in the field.

While I'm not saying that's what happened, its not unlikely.

Simple - Australia at that stage were cruising to victory, and it had started to rain again.

If the rain became heavier, chances are the game would have been cancelled because it was before the 25 over mark that consistutes a match.

So, in wasting time, Indian were hoping with the help of mother nature that they could avoid defeat.

That, or they were trying to annoy the Australians so much that they played rash shots - which is what happened.

The extra 50% fine for Ganguly was because the over rate was more than 2 overs too slow. This can bring about an extra charge from the ICC which resulted in him losing an extra 50% of his match fee.

Ganguly deserved what he go for "time-wasting" but it won't be enough to stop him doing it...he has been doing it all tour (tests and one day). Always fiddling with the field, sometimes nearly every ball of an over...it not very sportsman like

And before everyone has a go at me, if ANYONE from ANY team does it, there should be harsh penalties, but I think because cricketers earn so much, a fine is not sufficient....bans for one or two matches might make 'em think about it!

I only saw the last five overs of last nights play, but from what i heard the whole thing with the Indian time wasting was disgraceful.

But i've never been a fan of Gangully. And he absolutely dogged it last night by not bowling himself in the last over when he was bowling well. completely dogged it and cost his team the game!

Did you know that the match was reduced to 35 overs and 7 overs was the max. any bowler could have bowled. His figures were 7-0-41-3 . It's okay to hate Gangs but dont let your hate get better of you.

As far as the fines are concerned, he deserves it. I would prefer to lose a game than having it abandoned by such tactics.

I think Ganguly is an arrogant **** and deserves everything he gets. Took great pleasure in watching Bangar run him out in the 1st VB game.

Amen to that!

Glad to see this happen...I was watching and can honestly say these tactics had me screaming to the Umpires to report him....

He is well known for these type of tactics and I am very glad to finally see him get what he deserved!

And that's a fact coz you say so ??

Thelwell - How do you know that Gangs is an arrogant **** ?? Please dont believe everything you read about him in the media.
He may not be the best example of sportsmanship, but he isn't worst either. I think he is a great captain and a very good player.

Who's worst than him? His behaviour last match was terrible.
Ganguly antic's must embarrass indians fans? He's the captain and should set an example.

The Australians play hard and sledge but thats all within the game.

Thelwell - Abusing the Umpires after being given out is worse. Bowling underarm is worse. I can give so many examples. I bet Australian fans really feel proud about Mcgrath abusing the umpire or Chappel bowling underarm. Please go and find out how many Times Steve Waugh has been fined by ICC and How many times other Aussie Players have been fined by ICC for their conduct on the field.

Ganguly does lead by example, Remember Gabba Test and his century ? Fist ODI in VB series ?

PS :- I dont believe in Sledging, If you resort to Sledging means you aren't good enough.

I'm an Indian and i'm not embarrassed by him one bit.in fact i'm proud of him (i'm not condoning any delaying tactics though). I'm sure the other indians on the forum feel the same way.

Care to share recollections of any matches where he's used these tactics he's so well known for?

Its a bit rich of Ricky "holier than thou" Ponting to imply that the injury break caused him and Marto to lose their wickets.

As a professional cricketer, you've gotta be prepared for any sort of interruption ; injury break, streaker break, ball change, drinks etc.

After that you refocus, which Ponting and Marto clearly failed to do.
Sorry Ricky, you weren't focussed enough - that's why u got out -- nothing to do with the time-out.
