overall exaggerate by these

I took Gooch's value, divided it by Trumper's and then gave that boost to Trumper's average and got like 43.4
That's a really flawed reasoning, as you are dividing one's aggregate average by the other's. Why would one player's adjusted average depend on another player?

I take the overall average of Gooch's GAMES and then divide that by the overall average of Trumper's games, unless there is a huge gap between the batting lineups of both sides, I don't think it should matter really.

You don't get the point. If I were to tell you to provide me with a list of adjusted average of all players, what would you do? And what you do is divide gooch's aggregate average by victor's, why would Gooch's aggregate average be proportional to victor's adjusted average?

Here's an attempt:-
Trumper's average is 39, in the matches he played, the overall average is 26.6. and, the overall average in test cricket (all time) is 31.96.

So for Trumper, the adjusted average would be, (39.04/26.6)*31.96= 46.91

And for Gooch, it'd be 42.58/29.6*31.96= 45.97

So for Trumper, the adjusted average would be, (39/26.6)*31.96= 46.86

And for Gooch, it'd be 42.58/29.6*31.96= 45.97
Actually you're adjusting it to average Cricket while I was only and solely adjusting Trumper's to Gooch, just a difference of approach nothing else.

fair enough tho, the gap isn't big in this equalization either, so maybe Trumper Peer-reputation cliffs Gooch

I never realized Gooch scored his runs in some of the most low scoring tests (expected I guess, as he took on the WI quartet, but didn't expect it to be that low, it's only 3 points higher than Trumper's matches).

English batting was largely **** during Gooch's heydays. Earlier it atleast had Gower, Robin Smith, etc; but ****ing Mike Gatting was one of their leading batsmen

Is there a list of adjusted averages?
The trick doesn't always work, for guys like Gooch and Trumper who were in moderately strong lineups it would work, but for guys like Tendulkar or Hammond it won't because they were in exceptionally strong lineups with exceptionally strong oppisitons sometimes so an overall list is useless, it has to be case-by-case.

Gooch, Gower, Crowe, and Greenidge all seem to have lower standardized averages than their actual averages in PEWS rankings while Borders average goes up a bit

I believe there are few from a few posters, but most aren't really that...... Reflective shall I say. Most shoves Viv for instance outside of the top 20.
Isn’t Viv one of the players where people say his average doesn’t tell the whole story? Would make sense for him to be outside the top 20 on a standardised average.

Also clearly @Prince EWS and I are actually extremely generous and big fans of VIv, but none of you guys give us credit for it.
