Former England Players Who You'd Transplant into the Current Side

Shady Slim

International Coach
KP would sook up deluxe in this team. He'd be white anting players and coaches all over the show, playing moody innings where he tried to swat everything, and just generally wanting everyone to know that he deserved better.
england rn don't have a batsman who, when they're on song you genuinely fear and i think KP really brought that, and they could really do with that in place of ollie pope

anil1405

International Captain
But prior to that, he was good
He was almost as bad as Kamran Akmal for a good number of years. So many relatively easy chances that he has dropped in not just one or two series but more than a handful of them.

Half of Prior's career as a keeper has been as bad as Buttler's this series.
That is utter BS. There was a brief time he was bad behind the stumps, then he became very good combined with a 40+ batting average.. Was never as bad as Buttler either batting or keeping. Was a toss up between Prior and Swann for my third pick........didn't realise it was an option to replace half the side with fallen hero's .

His keeping was definitley worse than Butler's when he first came into the side IMO. It wasn't really Test standard at the time. It improved very quickly though, and he was a proper gun throughout the meaty middle of his career.

And regressed at the fag end of his career so much that he was dropped for his poor keeping few times if I am not wrong.

Stewart as opener, Tres too, need impetus at the top IMHO, would bat Strauss at three. All well and good looking at KP, Flintoff, Gower and the like, but we'll still be 10-2 every match.

Memory is a funny thing.......I don't recall Prior ever being quite as inept Butler behind the stumps. I mean I know he was very ordinary at the start but I seem to think he worked hard and very quickly fixed it to the point he was quite dependable?? Right now if we're insisting on playing Bairstow I'd rather see him with the gloves.......at least his career says he avg more with the bat when he keeps

I definitely think the first three picks should be two openers and Graeme Swann.

I rate Cook and Strauss a little higher than the other opening options so I'll roll with those. Strauss was a good captain too which solves that problem.

Flintoff was obviously a gun but less of an upgrade on anyone when Stokes is already playing so I'd probably give him a miss to beef up the batting and keeping a bit from there. Knott debuted over 50 years ago so I don't think we can really call him "modern era" - so peak Prior it is. Pietersen's the best remaining bat but the last thing this team needs is internal discontent so I'd probably go with Gower instead. That'd leave:

Strauss *
Cook
Gower
Root
Stokes
Malan
Prior +
Swann
Wood/Robinson
Broad
Anderson

EDIT: Maybe Gooch ahead of Strauss?

Agree it's the openers we need now. But would you really take Tres and Stewart over Cook and Strauss? Love Tres to pieces but IMO he's not in front of those two. Batting Strauss at 3 isn't really an option is it?

This is a good thread but it needs a limit on how many players we can transplant? And how far back we consider the modern era.

Well Cook is actually present in a way, he could still play really.

Strauss batted at 3 for much of his county career, but I suppose Trott makes more sense, and if so I'm not having Cook, too dull.

I think Stewart would have been our best Opener in modern times if they hadn't mucked him about being 'Keeper. Oh and I love Tres so **** logic.

So going with the five, meaning we have Root, Anderson and the rest of the shower. My team

Tres
Stewart
Trott
Root
Gower (again my team I want to watch Gower bat again)
Stokes
Prior
Swann
Robinson
Wood
Anderson

I wouldn't be against Kp playing for Gower, as much as I believe he's a ****.

Oh I've done 6 haven't I shows how desperate I am, oh take out Gower and put in Malan I guess.

I presume peeps aren't going for Trott because he's dull and Malan has been one of the most successful of the shower. Pews idea of Gower at 3 with two solid openers not awful TBBH.

I presume Captain Andrew Russel is not recent enough?
