This mickey mouse tourney is just prep for the Ashes, Fred and Fletch won't be risking anything.
What about Dalrymple??None of the batsmen can bowl. None of the bowlers can bat.
Well if you are Duncan Fletcher then ODIs are merely about blooding test match specialists to see if they are good enough in the test format. However despite the fact that its taken him so long to realise it, i have to say that this England ODI side looks somewhat competitive now. Read is finally back into the ODI side and provides something different down the order, while Michael Yardy on first looks looks like the flexible player they've never had. Further more they've finally selected John Lewis after ridiculously dropping him after one game and he provides some well needed control in the bowling department along with Flintoff and Anderson. the only 2 weak points are strauss and collingwood but i think they can be covered up sufficiently. it would have helped had they picked a side like this some 2 years ago so that they had time to develop as players but instead they were too busy picking the likes of Clarke, key, mcgrath, plunkett and mahmood.Pedro Delgado said:You shouldn't get so worked up about a meaningless ODI tournament, we aren't and it's our team ffs.
none other than dalrymple and yardy of course?Arjun said:This England team is woefully lacking in balance. None of the batsmen can bowl. None of the bowlers can bat.
Do you really give a ****? Nobody I know does. I mean, it's nice to have some cricket to watch whilst we await the Ashes, but this and any other ODI set of games is just warm up for the only ODI tourney that matters, next year in the WI.tooextracool said:Well if you are Duncan Fletcher then ODIs are merely about blooding test match specialists to see if they are good enough in the test format. However despite the fact that its taken him so long to realise it, i have to say that this England ODI side looks somewhat competitive now. Well its this sort of attitude thats the reason why England are the only team in the top 8 to have never won a major trophy. Infact we have to go all the way back to Sharjah 97 for the last time we wont a an ODI series with more than 2 teams playing(That didnt include zimbabwe).Pedro Delgado said:Do you really give a ****? Even then I'd rather retain the Ashes than win the World Cup.
The ICCCCCCT is a bit of a laugh tbh.

If that was the thinking there's no way Broad jnr should've not been in the 14. With his height (7' 6" & growing.... ) you'd fancy him to get some serious bounce in the Windies.Pedro Delgado said:Doubt there will be much swing in WI, and if it ain't swinging he's fodder. No, they've done right for a change in using this as practice for the WC which is what ODIs are for, and Lewis won't be playing in it barring a massive injury crisis.
Except that the world cup is something that we've never won before, while the Ashes is something we've won some 1 billion times. The Ashes is a very important series, but its also worth noting that in terms of the history of ODI cricket we are probably the worst side out of the top 8.Pedro Delgado said:And who cares about ODI tournaments? They mean **** all.
It's "this sort of attitude" that won the Ashes last summer after 16 years, that's all I give a toss about, that and other Test series'. Are you honestly going to tell me you remember, or give a toss about last years, and the year before that's ODI results?
I'll enjoy our little group outing for what it is, preparation for the Ashes and a run out for Fred.
and theres clear evidence of that where? Theres always some sort of movement with the new ball, and Lewis is good enough to be able to use it. Provided he isnt thrown to the lions at the death, like he was forced to do against Razzaq during the summer because no on else was competent enough im confident he'll do a decent job. Infact the best thing might be to have him bowl 10 overs on the trot at the start of the innings.Pedro Delgado said:Doubt there will be much swing in WI, and if it ain't swinging he's fodder..
I still think this England side has some decent players to make them competitive once Flintoff bowls, Tresco returns and Mahmood is dropped for Lewis. The only problem is that players like Dalrymple, Bell, Harmison, Yardy and Lewis dont have enough ODIs under their belt and some of them should have been picked ages ago to be honest and should have had the experience of playing together. Tinkering with the ODI side a few months before the WC is quite desperate.BoyBrumby said:TEC tempts fate once too often.
Seriously, shocking call to drop Lewis, especially with the movement Munaf & Pathan got.
