I doubt that will happen, he will be the skipper till he retires i think.Macka said:Good captain, average player.
Fleming being captain this long says more about New Zealand cricket than it does about his ability in my opinion.
Fleming should be forced out of the captaincy before he retires.
Crap! NZ cricket was in turmoil when he took over and he settled it down and presided over a period of rebuilding. Not just the team but NZ cricket in general. He has done a fine job as captain. Not just on the field but in what he has done for NZ cricket.Macka said:Good captain, average player.

You have to realize that despite Fleming's appearance as average, he's still the best international batsman in the country. And if you're looking to overhaul the team and try some new talent, you'd do better to replace other players before you replace Fleming.Macka said:Good captain, average player.

Since when do you have to be one of the greatest players (mainly batsman) around to be a great captain?Macka said:Good captain, average player.

Andy'll have you for that one...Mr Mxyzptlk said:For one, Fleming has probably been a more effective batsman than Nathan Astle.
Fleming averages 40.15 in test cricket. And as has been pointed out many times, his away average is very good (46.26, and with a much better conversion rate of 7 hundreds/24 fifties). It's been his batting at home that has cost him a mid-40s average really (only averages 32 at home in about 50 tests)Jono said:Since when do you have to be one of the greatest players (mainly batsman) around to be a great captain?
Taylor was far from a Lara or Tendulkar, but lead Australia brilliantly. Why would you throw away one of NZ's greatest minds simply because he doesn't average >40 in test cricket?
Firstly, I don't doubt Fleming has a done a good job in the past. He would make the Test and ODI teams on current form; I never doubted that in my post. He is still an average batsman, however.JF. said:Crap! NZ cricket was in turmoil when he took over and he settled it down and presided over a period of rebuilding. And why should he be forced out of the captaincy? He's NZ's highest run scorer and most successful captain. He should be allowed to go out on his own terms.
Where did I say that? I said Fleming is a good captain. And I said he's an average batsman. Both are true.Jono said:Since when do you have to be one of the greatest players (mainly batsman) around to be a great captain?
Where did I say that? Who's talking about getting rid of Fleming because he only just started to average 40 in Test cricket? Name someone in the current NZ Test team who does. Ah, right...Jono said:Taylor was far from a Lara or Tendulkar, but lead Australia brilliantly.
