What is deepwoke about supporting England here? Genuine question.
I'm an outsider to football culture but this article explains a part of it. Basically, Southgate (the English manager) supports players taking the knee for BLM. Also, quite a few of the english players have open progressive stances which he has openly backed. Conservatives, including prominent politicians and wind up merchant types with huge followings like Piers Morgan have problems with this and as they feel he has hijacked the nationalistic identity of international sport with woke politics, or as one of them put it, Southgate is considered an 'agent of deep woke', which has become a meme. Keep in mind that Piers Morgan is the same guy who compared Sterling getting a tattoo of a gun on his leg before the last world cup (as remembrance for his dad who died of a gunshot wound when Sterling was an infant) to getting a KKK tattoo and suggested he should be left out due to it.

Noteworthy that a lot of these types were gleefully predicting that England will get demolished in the world cup because of Southgate getting distracted from football due to woke politics etc. but have now conveniently morphed into apolitical football fans.

I don’t think it’s nailed on but he’s lucky to get away with it. Whether you get sent off for it usually depends on the ref’s view.

I know Pickford has hero status due to starring in the WC penalty shoot out but the Italian keeper looks so much more composed and smoother than Pickford.

Italy the better side over the 120 minutes, but far from one sided and not like they created that many more clear cut chances.

Why do commentators not know that you toss once to determine which end the penalties are taken, and toss a 2nd time to determine who goes first?
