Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

It becomes one sided if it involves Australia. They surrender worse than any other team when they play the Aussies.

This game will be a close one though. If NZ win the toss and bat first, it will be a repeat of the 2019 WC semifinal. That early movement from NZ bowlers is going to trouble our openers.
Broadly true, but believe it or not NZ have defeated Australia 3 times in ICC white ball tournaments in the last decade (Aus have won 4 times). If there was ever a time NZ would prefer to play Australia over India it would be this tournament.

NZ chances are a lot better if they bat first, no question. But there's also the chase at Dharamsala in 2023, when Henry bowled almost as well as in 2019 but Rohit and Gill were equal to the task.

They will hold it bi-yearly at that point (to maximize profits for the fat cats.)
It's the only way cricket can become a global sport IMO. We are still a long long way away from that.

Viewership will dictate prize money and I can see T20 WC being the biggest event in cricket down the road.

Apart from the travel and the poor scheduling, the last T20 WC was pretty good with 16 teams imo.

The India-Pakistan clash at the infamous Nassau Cricket Stadium didn’t even cause any shift in the plate tectonics that is World Cricket.

The youngsters love bang bang cricket…but understanding the nature and beauty of a forward defense shot beats any ramp in my book.

Anyways, I’m showing my true self… have to stop herr

Cricket doesn't need to be a global sport?
Why not?

We won't get USA embarrassing Pakistan, Netherlands having the wood over SA in both ODI and T20's in ICC events or Afghanistan becoming a rising power in cricket if we dint expand the game

We have the ODI World cup for top quality cricket but the T20 WC needs to have more teams to globalize the game.

The game was played on a **** pitch. I love low scoring games but I reckon someone new to cricket would've probably found it hard to enjoy the grind of chasing 120 to win.

The T20 version definitely isn’t as prestigious as the other 50 over version (probably slightly more than the CT as it is still a World Cup), but in some ways to me it feels more like a World Cup with more teams, even a 14 team World Cup will have the same old teams as have always taken part, it doesn’t get started in earnest until the latter stages

Only football is a global sport, everything else is regional or national and thats fine. They can still be successful.
If that's your definition of global sport, it's fine. I'm talking more in terms of expanding the sport's reach.

The last T20 WC with 16 teams would've been considered a grand success if the games were played on better pitches and if the scheduling/travel was better organized.

How is it any different it to the Euro's or the FIFA World Cup then? Group stages doesn't exactly make for spectacular viewing. And we'll have 48 teams next year.

While having more teams dilutes the quality of cricket but ICC can afford to experiment having more teams in the T20 format as compared to the ODI WC.

The big group stage format is terrible, 9 frigging games to progress to the semis, or simply to suffer defeat after defeat, how many dead rubbers are there? The football World Cup doesn’t see nearly as many, and albeit it’s unique to football really, we see some great drama in the 3rd game of the group (maybe slightly less now that some 3rd place teams will go through). I don’t buy the argument about more teams diluting the competition, the gap between the lower Test teams and the top associates is negligible, you only have to see the Windies’ struggles in the last World Cup qualifier to see that, and I know T20 is more likely to produce upsets, but the USA had never even made a World Cup before and stunned Pakistan. Speaking of Pakistan, they lost to Ireland in 2007 in a 16 team tournament, a more cynical man than I might suggest that (and Bangladesh beating India) is the reason behind that format being shelved…
