That tournament there were 3 games in the group stage. If you have a bad start and lose a couple you have no way back, whereas the 2011 World Cup there were 6 matches in a group so even with a couple of losses you could still progress

Yeah, format was definitely tweaked to ensure every team had more guaranteed games but saying it was tweaked to ensure India would go through to the KOs everytime is just bollocks.
