Fast/Seam Bowlers of the 1990s - anyone for a Top Ten?

Dazinho

Just continuing from the earlier thread, it's difficult to remember another era where there was so much depth of quality pace and seam bowling.

There were clearly some sides possessed of greater strength in depth than others, but there was at least some sense of it being a worldwide thing, with all of the Test nations having at least one decent new ball bowler.

My top ten from the 1990's for what it's worth, looks something like:-

1 - Curtly Ambrose
2 - Waqar Younis
3 - Allan Donald
4 - Glenn McGrath
5 - Wasim Akram
6 - Courtney Walsh
7 - Jason Gillespie
8 - Shaun Pollock
9 - Heath Streak
10 - Angus Fraser

Some quality bowlers ommitted from this list, which simply serves to illustrate the depth that was around at the time.

Thoughts appreciated - thanks...

Javagal Srinath was as good or better than Heath Streak / Angus Fraser considering the conditions he bowled in..btw Andy Caddick/ Fannie D were good as well..

Srinath was a good bowler, but just misses out on the top ten IMO.

Streak had the pressure of carrying a weak attack and keeping it competitive.

He was miserly with the ball and gave nothing away - of course, the same could be said of Fraser.

Caddick's best form probably came in the early 2000's.

De Villiers was a strong third seamer in a quality attack.

Lots of close calls and possible contenders down the bottom of this list...

Merv Hughes is worth a shout here, though he was basically done by 94 or so. Would likely miss out but he was great for Australia in the early 1990s.
