Fab Five Replacements

So forget about retiring, voluntary or forced. Just drop any one (or more) of them if his/their current form so warrants and bring in the youngster/s who seems most deserving as replacement. Allow the youngster to prove his worth in the side and cement his place while allowing the dropped senior to try and fight his way back into the side if he so desires.

This is the way to do things. It is sensible and it is professional.
I agree, but don't you think the selectors have leaned too far the other way, giving out a message of "however badly they play, they won't be dropped because they're legends"? We can never be sure of the quality of the competition until someone gets at least a match when someone's playing very badly. The one player from the replacements i really like, Mishra, is showing his quality as we speak- on a flat track against the best batting lineup in the world. It's too much to suggest players like Badrinath could ever equal Dravid, but if Dravid isn't performing, Badri should at least be given the opportunity to try.

They havent been a disaster (Dravid has been mediocre), have they. Wonder how many Indians baying for their blood realise how tough an act this is to follow and how much are we asking from the youngsters. Besides, how much damage it would do to the Indian team in the immediate future if all of them were to leave.

Totally agree

If India were suddenly to pick a side without Dravid/Tendy/Laxman/ and even Ganguly, the chances are that the team would be in dire straights before you know it and probably wouldnt recover for a few years

I hope Badrinath comes in when Ganguly goes and if Laxman has a poor series maybe they should drop him for a couple of games and try another youngster, maybe Rohit Sharma.

I do hope Kumble will not continue for too long. We have a replacement spinner who is good and a replacement skipper who is better.

I hope they give Raina a chance also. Its clear he is quite talented and also averages around 45 in FC.There aren't many(if at all) better stroke players in India.

Mishra to take a load of wickets in this Test and the next. India leading 2-0. Kumble to retire after the dead rubber?

A retirement can surely be delicious to unbeatable degrees if you feel, as you retire, great confidence in the man who seems sure to take your place?

(Fuller to comment on syntax?)

If Mishra goes well for whatever the rest of this series he plays and India win it, Kumble could surely pick no better or more satisfying time to leave the scene.
