Where are all the people defending Australia anyways? I mean it is perfectly fine to say that you don't like watching Smith or Warner bat due to aesthetic reasons.. You can even argue that their numbers are inflated due to batting on easier pitches but you can't seriously question their quality.. Both have proven multiple times that they are as good as anybody when the conditions are not in their favour.

As for Smith's shuffle, it does add a layer of complexity to his batting and there is thus one more thing that can go wrong. Will it work against him? Maybe. But then I used to feel that Ponting getting the rhythm of his footwork right year after year was not going to be possible but look at how wrong I am.

i think it's funny when "wrong" techniques succeed and annoy purists so smith gets a big tick from me.

being australian makes him immediately lose most of that tick but he's ok when it's england or india on the receiving end.

I'm sick of a new up and comer taking wickets and we all think 'here we go again' and then they nancy pansy, hurt a fragment in their foot or twinge a back muscle and go off for remodeling. Stop It! I wouldn't mind it about Warner, but it's Smith that pisses me off most, I just don't get how he can shuffle about that damn much and not constantly get out due to his movement. Though I suppose when it starts going wrong for him, which it will, it will go absolutely tragically wrong for him.

I think the same but my cricket watching career started by watching heaps of Andrew Jones, whose technique was even weirder than Smith's, and he never got found out.

Shameful lack of cricket knowledge. Andrew Jones held the world record for highest Test partnership (with Martin Crowe) from 1991 for about a decade.

He was the Kiwi Steve Smith in that you took one look at him and thought "nah, there's no way he will succeed with that technique", and then he was averaging 50+ for a bit.

tbh I think you're imagining most of this. Before you posted in this thread no one had said a thing that was overly pro-Australian, a few excessively anti-Australian things were posted but nothing was really complained about.

then you came in claiming people were being pro-Australian which just wasn't really the case

But I never said it was just this thread. And the only piece of advice I gave to this thread was that we respect what the OP said. IF someone wants to rant that they think Smith is a batsman with a **** technique and he hates that he gets so many runs, honestly, for posters as pro-aussie as the ones I mentioned, it should just be sweetness. Why even pick apart what anyone has to say in a thread where the OP specifically requested us to refrain from doing so? Again, is that so hard to ask?

Yes, because so many people other than you have expressed so many problems with people discussing the views presented in the thread. We've had pages and pages of people objecting to that, after all.

Quit pretending to be a moderator and taking up the cudgels for people who have made no indication that they want or need your advocacy. Absolutely no one had a problem with people discussing Smith and Warner until you came along, and I note that you haven't mentioned any of the other threads of discussion where people have disagreed/criticised people who have presented a view.

And this was my first post on said topic, before Daemon decided to jump in for no reason.

Wanted to post a couple of things saying how much I enjoy Warner and Smith's game but I see some of the #ozisgreatallelsesucks are already in doing that, including making completely stupid falsified claims about SehWAG's batting. Just one question though: Do such people even read the OP and understand what the thread and topic is supposed to be about?



On topic, I just hate it when fast bowlers and not so fast bowlers put two guys in the deep and start bowling short into the batsmen all the time in tests, cutting out any real scoring opportunities. I know it is fair game and it is a proper cricket skill but somehow it just feels so annoyingly stalling... Its like a tactic where the batsmen can never really win, unless its an INdian "Fast" bowler.

And if that was the end of it, I wouldn't have posted more. I enjoyed the discussion and actually wanted to post about Smith and Warner being better than they look as batsmen just like SehWAG. I am ok to stop this tedium but its a two way street. People are still responding and I am trying to explain. I have no intention to engage again in this nonsense.
