I take it you won't be coming to the promotion party then?
Any excuse for any party, any excuse for an invitation for me, fear not - I'll be there.8D :saint:
Never been to a City game in my life, but I have a few mates who are there all but every week. I'm glad when they do well, but I wasn't as gutted as some when they went down.

What careful studies are these?
I'm a Worcs. member and saw most cricket down there last summer and what you have just said is absolute drivel. Asssumptions made just to fit with how highly you rate a player.
You don't need to see cricket to know whether wickets were tail-enders or top-order.:duh: :duh:
I rate Batty as rubbish because he is a fingerspinner, and thus far in internationals nothing has appeared to make me look incorrect for holding that idea.
If you're so incredibly clued-up on Worcs cricket, name every one of the batsmen among Batty's wickets last season. Then we'll get something of a picture of how good they were. And even then it's not perfect, because good batsmen do play poor strokes.
All you can really know that I don't is how often spin-friendly decks are produced at New Road. And if they're produced with some regularity, maybe I'll place just a little more stall on Batty's success.
Otherwise it is, quite simply, inevitably poor batting.
And as for the old "Asssumptions made just to fit with how highly you rate a player", you and marc really have trouble understanding the idea of basing a rating on a lot of small pictures, rather than just a big one, don't you? Also with actually basing a decision on something, rather than making a decision and trying to find something to base it on.

my take on them is more to the point, they all suck
My take on the Aussie spinners is also fairly to the point. They all suck apart from Warne, and White is an OK prospect.

Of course, they have handy part time spinners. Lehmann, Clark, Katich, Bevan used to be in the side as a batting all-rounder at one point.

But all the specialists apart from the stated suck.

You what?

You automatically have decided this ahead of someone who's seen him bowl a fair bit?
Yep - because that is one grouping that is not just a meaningless generalisation - fingerspinners, simply, cannot provide a threat to competant batsmen in conditions that don't suit them.

Of course not, it's inconceivable that a finger spinner may actually be a good bowler.

If that were so, how come people even try to bowl it?

But Batty has a good bowling average since he joined Worcs. Were all of his 60 odd 1st class wickets last season due to bad batting.
New Road was more helpful than usual last season to the spinners probably because of the dry summer.
I'm not some one-eyed merchant who is going to say Batty is international class. Because he isn't. But I think he is a good county cricketer who deserves credit for his performances over the last 2 seasons. And guys like Rodney Marsh and Ashley Mallett rate him and they've seen more of him than both of us.
Batty is useful at all disciplines of the game. The classic bits'n'pieces player which are so rife in England.

And from what I remember from last season it was usually Wayward Hayward and Kabir who cleaned up the opposition's tail end.

I'd like to see you name 5 better (unless you count the overseas professionals)

Well he is in the second xi for Lancashire and is never used and has fallen behind top lads in the Jenner academy

Not so much as he was destroyed by opposition batsmen.
Erm.... why do you think he was destroyed answer Coaches destory his confidence and loss of Ability as a Result.... If he would have had Jenner he wouls still be in the England team but oh course you know all about spin dont you?

That's tripe.

Terry Jenner is not God.

And even if he was, he'd have his work cut out with Salisbury.

Agreed. There are good fingerspinners in the world, you know, Richard, but not in England's case apart from James Middlebrook.

[/Amits mode] I sure hope not!

Even Zoheb Sharif is better than Mushy!

{/Amits mode off]

Maybe. I don't rate him that highly, though.
