English Domestic Season 2025

FBU

International Debutant
Lancashire's Harry Singh stars for Cumbria in a losing cause today at South North CC in the National Counties 50 over trophy.

114 with the bat and 2/5 from his single over (the 50th), plus a run out in that last over together with 2 catches earlier in the innings.

Not a bad day's work.
Swap him for Jones

Saw some highlights of Worrall bowling and while he ended up with 5 for nothing in the match, he was barely military medium

Skilled bowler but find it hard to believe that he will be picked in tests on that showing

Not saying he’s a speedster, or that he has a Test future (the bloke himself has said as such), but speed guns in the County Championship seem to be on the low side, Josh Tongue apparently was bowling high 70s to low 80s and Fergus O’Neill was topping out in the mid 70s which I find hard to believe

On the point about him having won Championships, he’s not wrong is he?! He captained Durham to two titles, back to back, so I think you’re being a tad harsh getting stuck into him over that. It’s clear he knows how it’s done, even if he isn’t ’getting it done’ as a coach at Lancashire.
Sure, but the roles are not the same. As coach his views and ideas are being implemented in terms of how Lancashire are playing.
As captain it's more on the spot decisions and changes and leading the players.
Both of course could lose the dressing room.

Sussex given a reminder that Division 1 is going to be a bit tougher than what they've experienced so far. Probably a good toss for Notts to win, but they made the most of it and were just the better team throughout the 3 days. Every time Sussex looked like they might get back into it, Notts found a way of breaking partnerships. A week off probably quite handy now.

No, but he was just using lived experience to try and answer a question in an interview. I think you’re reading too much into it to be honest.

There'd be uproar if Surrey did this mind. There was a collective meltdown when we brought in Al Hasan for one game last year!
One of the three was an overseas player but there should be limits on loan signings. Durham should just have depth in their attack.

guys is anyone else slightly more than concerned that there seems to be no sighting on Stokesy? is he injured? if so surely that's him out for the India tests +/- the Ashes... and I think bringing him back with absolutely no cricket under his belt at this stage would be ridiculous.

Durham do have enough depth in their squad.
Blatherwick's figures were 12-1-37-0 in the first innings and he did not bowl in the second innings. Mitchell Killeen could have done that.
Stan McAlindon may have struggled to bowl 12 overs.

Still coming back from the hamstring injury that he got on the NZ test tour. He wasn't likely to play ahead of the Zimbabwe test match for Durham. It is obviously a bit of a risk that he plays a competitive game without any practice, but you would have thought that the aim was to ease himself in for that game before stepping up competitive action ahead of the India series. He has been bowling in the nets but that of course is utterly different to playing in the middle.

this is why I'm concerned and the conversations need to be had now especially seeing as some fast bowlers are delivering in the CC right now , will he keep his place as purely a batsman // tactician // vibes man??? is this all vibes right now

I think the vibes stuff is seriously overrated myself. Many of the players who were involved across the winter haven't necessarily had a lot of cricket coming off their break for a variety of factors, some having been injured or having been involved in the Champions Trophy and therefore having not had downtime across the winter.. More than likely, Stokes will play as a batter only in the forthcoming test, although it would still make sense if he had a game or so in the middle., even at 2nd XI level if necessary.

Not to be a contrarian, but is it just me who's not arsed? Good captain, sure, but he barely bowls now and plays a good innings one in every ten.

you have to be concerned because McCullum is like his dad. They love each other. They see one another in each other. They are inseparable in this team. Without Stokes there is no Bazball

If Stokes can't bowl then it massively affects the ability to balance the side. Someone needs to be the fifth bowler. If not Stokes, then it's either Root bowling spin or Liam Dawson at seven imo. Either way, if he can't bowl you need four quicks. But is Stokes one of the five best bats in the country? Can he play on the basis of his captaincy (probably yes)?
