English Domestic Season 2025

That Lord's price is looking seriously out of whack with all the others. The London crowds are obviously solid and pay more, but surely that just makes Oval seem like good value. What do they expect to get for their money?

Half of this just seems like a laundering operation.
In business terms the Lord’s premium can be seen as goodwill based on the value of the name and branding.

The valuations as a whole however do seem vastly over inflated for what they are purchasing - the right to host four short-format games per year, without permanent ground, players or staff and for a competition which has a largely casual fan base and which has yet to really establish itself in the popular consciousness.

Possibly the least surprising aspect of the ECB's auction is that Yorkshire sell all their 51%. Basically £51m to the debt ridden County and a further £49m to the ECB. Presumably it will soon not owe that £15m to the Graves Family trust.

Sunrisers join the game. Just Trent Bridge to be decided and the price Delhi will give to the ECB for their minority share, syurely no-one will bid against them.

With MI, Lucknow, Delhi and Sunrisers all aboard we move a step nearer year long franchise contracts.

Hampshire CCC is bought by an Indian company, then they’ve got rid of Pakistani cricketer Abbas.

Racism? Or am I reading too much into that?
Not a good strategic decision. He is guaranteed to take wickets. That said, they've lost Vince from their batting line-up and probably think they need a batter first of all, to fill that gap.

An early test will see how many Pakistani cricketers are drafted by the new (Indian based) franchises. I know the ECB have said that they will not allow Pakistani cricketers to be frozen out of the draft but it will be interesting to see how they stop it. It only applies to half the franchises at the moment so they will of course be able to point at the draft selections by the other 4 franchises to say it is open to all.

Surely the Williamson deal involves money from the 100. Will this be good or bad for the County Championship if 100 teams can purchase good quality players

Be interesting to see if the Indian involvement at Headingley leads to even more (if that's even possible!) marginalisation of the local Pakistani community

Hales won't be playing for Notts in the Blast. He's moved abroad apparently. Presumably a neighbour of Vince's in Dubai.

The annual preseason cold up takes place as above . Free entry to all spectators. . It will be Alex Lees' debut as captain after taking over from Young George . The squad selected could well be a mixture of new signings, players looking to cement a place and a couple of Academy prospects . The University have ex Durham and Sacriston paceman Mel Betts as head coach who will reach his half century on the second day. They have a proven record of producing county and national cricketers and will be looking to show their abilities .. Hopefully the temperature reaches double figures and the Trapdoor Stand is open . The Relton Terrace correspondent will be bringing matchday information such as what wicket will be used and price of hot drinks in the members bar .

I wonder who our team will be for this one.

I assume we'll play a straight XI rather than the model way of using 14/15 players during the game to give everyone some game time.

After a relatively dry winter, it appears unsettled weather is making an unwelcome return for the next month, just in time. Expect rain or wet outfields galore for the first few weeks again

I think there's a couple of friendly games v Yorkshire which if I recall correctly may be a 3 day game and a 50 Over affair 🤔 which could allow game time for Stanley,, Minty and Hoggy

Rule change in franchise cricket land allows the direct signing of an overseas player by each of the new owners.

Reportedly they are all signing up in accordance with their global owners

  • Australia’s Steve Smith to Welsh Fire (he already plays for their American owner)
  • New Zealand’s Trent Boult to Birmingham Phoenix
  • South Africa’s David Miller to Northern Superchargers
  • Australia’s Marcus Stoinis to Trent Rockets
  • South Africa’s Faf du Plessis to Southern Brave (with Delhi Capitals)
In addition, it understood that:

  • Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan will join champions Oval Invincibles, having previously played for Trent Rockets (already with MI franchise)
  • West Indies’s Nicholas Pooran will join Manchester Originals (already with Lucknow SG franchise)
