English Domestic Season 2024

Yeoman

U19 Vice-Captain
Combined National Counties just beaten Leicestershire in a T20 warm up.

Individual Counties would struggle to raise competitive teams, due to work commitments.
When people talk about including a Minor\National Counties element in a future 50 or 20 over set up, is a combined team (as in the old B&H) more practical than individual counties participating?

I think that depends on who the people are doing the talking.
It's the hope or ambition of the NCCA to have a representative side in one or both those competitions whenever that opportunity arises. That's where the Challengers fit in, part of trying to prepare players for whatever the opportunity comes if and when it does.
This podcast covers NCCA cricket monthly whilst primarily focussing on the Premier Leagues:

Another rest for Robinson this week, although given his form, he might be dropped.

Not entirely sure about Glamorgan's decision to put Sussex in so far, it's not exactly doing a lot.

Edit: I'm such an idiot....that's done for Haines.

International Coach
Poor Nathan Smith. Genuine #7 listed to bat at #9, then a nightwatchman is used pushing him down to #10, and he doesn't get to bat after the #8 and #9 score twin centuries.

Congratulations to Haseeb Hameed. Carrying his bat. Wonder if Paul Allott was watching after what he said back when Has was playing for Lancashire.

Looks like three misable coaching years for Dale Benkenstein. Relegated with Gloucester two years ago, no wins with Gloucester last year then this.

Good to see a challenging declaration by Gloucestershire.
Only setting Northants 558 to win.

Northants, 144-2 at stumps (Procter 45no)

Did they think they were bowling to "Bradman's Invincibles" or something.
Should have declared when Bancroft got his hundred.

They will be hoping the weather is fine on Day 4.

Midwinter

State Captain
First win of the season to Glamorgan, thanks to the big stand by Carlson and Ingram, with some good bowling by Hamza.

Gorvin got 5 wickets in the Sussex second innings, always been a battler but good to see him get some reward.

Ingram having a good start to the season.

Glamorgan probably benefitting from Robinson not being allowed to bowl in consecutive matches. At 41-4, he may have made a key breakthrough to change the course of that partnership. Hamza was the star though, taking key wickets in both innings against a Sussex batting line up which had been scoring runs for fun up to this point.

Roach does seem to enjoy playing against Warwickshire. From memory, that's the third successive season when he's collected outstanding figures against their batters. One other feature of yesterday's play was Sean Abbott's outstanding c&b to dismiss Ed Bernard. Worth catching if you haven't seen it. And obviously Smith's innings was a thing of beauty. If he keeps this up, he may be next in line when there's a vacancy in England's middle order.

Potts has started Hampshire's second innings rather better than he managed in the whole of their first one. Another couple of wickets before luch could see Hampshire in trouble, despite their first innings 503.

EDIT
Not happening, is it. Hampshire looking safe enough now.
