English Domestic Season 2023

Does anyone know why Ollie Robinson is not playing for Sussex? I don't believe he's injured. Hasn't played since July, you'd think he'd want to play all the remaining FC Fixtures given he's then got nothing else till after Xmas.

Rumours that England didn't want him playing all the Sept games which seems daft.

The Sussex comms asked Fabrace about it last night.

England to blame said they wanted him to work on his fitness after the Ashes. Not available for this game or the next one, but will be for the last 2.

By which point Sussex chances of finishing second may well be up in flames. Then no point in him playing really.

Supposedly building up his fitness is playing golf in Spain/Portugal as that's what his social media showed the other day said the Sussex and Durham commenators.

They could do with him mind as their over-rate has been terrible and Sussex haven't looked like taking a wicket. Mind it's 25 and glorious in the NE today so perfect batting conditions.

What excuse do they have for Anderson not playing for Lancs?

I've got an idea how he could build his fitness, bowling 20 overs a ****ing day!! He's had the last 6 weeks to work on his fitness, now he should be honing his skills. Utterly ridiculous and the ECB once again having an impact on the CC.

He was on commentary duties for the BBC yesterday for the T20I against New Zealand.

So we shall see if they use common sense and give him so more cricket for the remaining 3 games.

Although common sense and the ECB don't mix.

Hello!
Josh Bohannon continues to impress. He's currently on 174* averaging 47.5 in domestic cricket. Do you know why he hasn't been considered by the England team ? Because of his strike rate ? English batters averaging over 45 are pretty rare, right ?

He was in the lions squad before the season started.

Pope is the vice captain so unlikely to replace him unless Pope goes back to averaging 20s

Alex Lees picked up his fifth century of the season today, top run scorer across the two divisions and averaging 70 odd. Scored at 70 odd SR too.

Really gone away after being dropped by England and done everything in his power to get back in the side.

Albeit how Crawley performed in the Ashes the questions around him have disappeared.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Anderson. Is he likely to get a central contract? If so how much are they paying him for to rest and play one or two tests next year? If not will he get performance related contract or nothing? If nothing will he retire or slog his guts out for Lancs in the belief he can play for England again?

Agree re Robinson, if he can't get fit in six weeks, will he ever?

Bohannon had to be persuaded to give cricket a try, was told he was qualified as an electrician whilst scoring runs for fun at age group level. Always could bat long.

Normally Bohannon would have made the England side, but that middle order is just so strong now it's impossible to force your way in.

I suspect he is fit but the ECB won't let him play. If you're telling a player he can only play the last 2 games then chances are he's going to head to a golf course until he's needed. The question for me is why he's only allowed to play those 2. Playing 4 games in Sept would actually be good practice for a lengthy Test series. It should also be noted that until he started playing for England he had no trouble turning out for this many games either. To borrow a phrase from the golfer Patrick Cantlay, "pampered little ****s"!!

Ed Barnard proving far too good at The Oval; 4 for 46 so far, all four clean bowled.
The balls moving miles, maybe something to do with the 10.30 start, maybe Barnard and Rushworth are bowling beautifully, or maybe both.
I went on Sunday. Very green looking pitch, although they seem to have done this for quite a while now. This has stymied the development of Virdi and Moriarty with the latter deciding to go to Yorkshire. I think 10:30 makes a huge difference. Warks clearly mucked up in not getting 3-4 wickets in the first hour. Once the pitch dried out it was less difficult to bat under very blue skies. Jamie Smith played a fine knock and will be disappointed not to ton up. Warks rolled over the last few wickets yesterday relatively quickly but the damage has been done. They look like they might lose by an innings.

Won by an innings and just 3 overs of spin bowled by Surrey. In conditions more akin to the middle of Summer too. The title looks nailed on, but they're hardly a balanced side, just packed full of seamers.

Given that almost all grounds now have floodlights to offset the earlier onset of dusk in September, would it be better to stick with 11am starts for that month?

Yes, its boring and they are even a couple of seamers down with Currans and Atkinson with England. Can't say I like it at all.

I still think that is likely to favour the seamers too much to be honest.

Tim Bostock the Durham CEO came on for a chat in Durham vs Sussex stream. He said the exact same thing.

Obviously not happy about the season effectively being April/May and last two weeks of September too for next season.

Wagner was obviously a good bowler but he looked completely finished the last time I saw him so a bit surprised to see him at Somerset

Not too many others available atm I suppose

I should know this, but I'm not 100% on the rules.

When you take the extra half hour ( 8 overs) like Durham did last night, where do these overs come from.
Are they 8 overs from the Day 4 Quota, or not.
Does that mean there is a maximum over 88 overs on the final day instead of 96.

Just thinking of matches where there could be rain delays or a large 10th wkt partnership that could affect the match (Not this match obviously)

The logic would make sense. But I don't actually know.

If an extra 30 minutes needs to be taken though you'd be shocked if a game gets anywhere near 88 overs the next day.
