English Domestic Season 2023

Yorkshire fielding an Aussie called Mickey Edwards who has played a grand total of five FC matches at the age of 28. Presumably he's not playing as an overseas pro since they have Shakeel and Hope in their side too. Who is he?
Don't know anything about him myself but there is an article about him on cricketer.com when he signed for them.

They signed him as he has a british passport.

The forum spam filters are not letting me post the link. You might have put the three words Mickey Edwards Yorkshire into google

ECB made Durham rest Potts after Carse rested last week.

Can't see either playing in Ashes Potts isn't injury prone like Carse and it's a new season ffs.

Only got Marnus to get out twice cheers lads. ECB love to **** on Durham

Least the batting is going well so far after put in by Glamorgan. Albeit a dodgy umpire call on Lees who was continuing to play aggressively like he was in pre season in Zimbabwe and the first 2 games.
I started my cricket watching season at Cardiff today. The pitch offered nothing to the bowlers so The ECB might have done Potts an inadvertent favour. Most surprising that Glamorgan chose to field. Robinson impressed, as did Beddingham briefly however the ease with which Trevaskis and Carse handled the second new ball suggested that a result will be hard to come by.

Fox Cricket has an article showing Marnus's two wickets and fmd DRS really saves us at the international level. Absolutely no way that gets given except for the umpire deciding he doesn't like reverse sweeps, not even vaguely close to pitching in line.

The lbw for Jones was horrendous umpiring

Price gets a hundred and takes a hat-trick in the same day! Has that ever happened before in FC cricket?
The nearest anyone has found was Mahmadullah who scored a ton and then took 2 wickets with his first 2 balls having taken 2 with his last 2 in the previous innings. So he completed a hatrick (and then one more) and scored a ton.

James Franklin scored a 100 and took a hattrick in the same match for Gloucestershire in 2009. I don't think it was done on the same day though.

It was given out on moral grounds. It was a stupid shot to play in the circumstances and he threw away the chance of a hundred in extremely favourable conditions. There were plenty of loose balls to score off without needing to try a thing funky.

I recall a similar incident at Radlett about 10 years ago. Eoin Morgan, at a time when his improvisions were still rather ahead of the accepted curve, came in, played a reverse sweep first ball and was given LBW. It was debatable however I suspected that that his ‘cheek’ at playing the shot subconsciously incensed the umpire.

If an umpire is doing that he needs to be removed from the circuit - especially since this is the kind of cricket the Test Team is encouraging batsmen to play.

Not only that but it was a perfectly fair shot for the batsman to attempt on the understandable assumption that the umpire won't rewrite the LBW law on a whim.

My ‘LBW on moral grounds’ comments were not meant entirely seriously and I am sure that any shot-related bias by umpires is subconscious. I do think though that batsmen are more likely to be given LBW when reverse sweeping than if playing a more orthodox shot, given the same trajectory and point of impact. Perhaps it is simply that the umpire’s inner compass is put out of joint by the reversal of the batsman’s stance.

Whatever it takes!!!

I would actually be ok if this was the case tbh. I am with Burgey here. Maybe not for the reverse sweep, but if you switch hands to suddenly become the opposite type of batter than you took strike as, you dont have a legstump to hide behind for LBWs and wides if you miss the ball. End of.

I think Mike Procter did it a couple of times for Gloucestershire, but on neither occasion were the hat-trick and hundred on the same day as each other. I reckon that Price might be out on his own here.

Great to see that the Somerset folk put Lancashire to the sword. And a decent start from Essex too. Happy days.
Taunton update:
No wickets yesterday in the two sessions after lunch.
Just the one wicket today in the two sessions after lunch. (Just 302 runs in those two sessions even after losing 10 overs to bad light)

Did someone mention result pitches?
