England's Keeper Dilemma

The Problem with England keepers is similar to the idea of having county bullies who aren't good enough to cut in on the international stage.

Just like in the fast bowling department over the years the likes of Giddins, Bicknell, Saggers, Ormond, Mullally, Cork (even though he had the odd brilliant test match performance), Tudor. Then the batsmen such as Hick, & Ramps (though they had some good times), Smith, Knight, Crawley and the spinners Batty, Dawson, Such (probably not that bad but you can't call him a world beater).

But since 99 or so batsmen & bowlers have come in and done well making England a good side today.

All of Read, Jones, Prior, Foster, Nixon etc have all average high in FC cricket, but just like the batsmen & bowlers they have struggled overall at the highest level. England just need some keeper from somwhere to step hopefully sooner rather than later..

Well personally i don't think the keeper the dilemma is close to being eradicated just yet even though some good option are going around.

Nixon has showed his worth in the WC and deserves to start in the ODI team during the upcoming home season. But their is still a deptation to draft someone like Pothas into the ODI side since he would give the ODI side more batting depth.

Looking at the test side, while in Barbados i read Niall O'Brien wants to play for England & will qualify for the upcoming winter tours which is brilliant news in that England could have 3 quality keepers fitting for a test spot in O'Brien, Davies & Foster(even though i have my doutbs on his ability on the international stage) fighting for a test spot in the future. Since i strongly believe Read's & Geraint's chances are done.

But looking ahead at the immediate future for the 1st test @ Lord's my choice for test keeper is definately Pothas. Hopefully the new coach has that same belief.
