Okay, I prefer watching rugby union to watching football and I preferred playing it as well. It just needs much more skill.

Fair enough. I watch a few games of football (especially when the World Cup is on) but I generally get bored by the lack of goals and the melodramatic diving etc.
Cricket is my favourite team sport to watch followed by rugby union. I also like watching rowing races, rugby league, and hockey.
Football would come next. Then AFL is quite entertaining to watch but really weird.
Also re football and its popularity, McDonalds is perhaps the food GOAT in terms of popularity but it is absolutely terrible food.
