England Squad announced

It also contains five uncapped players for England - Kent's wicketkeeper-batsman Joe Denly, Middlesex's Eion Morgan, who has played for Ireland, the exciting Essex allrounder Graham Napier, Chris Woakes, who was Warwickshire's leading wicket-taker last year with 49 scalps, and Adil Rashid, the spinner from Yorkshire who toured with the senior side in the Caribbean.
Who wrote this? Are they still in a job? Why?

He grew up in RSA but was born in England though.

Btw, who will lead England in the WC now?

Agree with oitoitoi about Morgan. Poor form IMHO. Just because he's eligible doesn't mean we're obliged to pick him.
Yeah really don't like it, how long are we going to be able to do this for?

Suppose Rob Key would be an option for the captaincy, don't think he will ever make a good test player but could do a decent job in this.

International 12th Man
From that 30 man squad I would select the following XI with 4 squad players:

Stephen Davies
Graham Napier
Kevin Pietersen
Andrew Flintoff
Owais Shah
Paul Collingwood
Luke Wright
Dimitri Mascarenhas
Stuart Broad
Graeme Swann
James Anderson

Kabir Ali
Ravi Bopara
Rob Key
Chris Tremlett

And of that team I'd ask Freddie to give the captaincy a go just for this tournament as a one off. I can't really see how KP could be given the job given the current political situation in the team and the ECB. I think he will captain England again, but not for the foreseeable future.

Im gonna throw it out there - Shaun Udal might just make the squad, as captain no less. No other reason for his selection in the 30 man squad IMO - he's not exactly a development player!

Yeah, Malan would have been a decent inclusion, especially as he can also open. Presumably with Udal they just run out of viable players to include.

The 20/20 WC showed for England that domestic 20/20 specialists don’t really cut it internationally, so they need to be careful with their final 15.

You sure he can??

The best XI & 15-man squad once all are fit hopefully will be:

Bopara
Napier
KP (c)
Shah
Flintoff
Collingwood
Prior
Mascarenhas
Swann
Broad
Anderson

Key/Denly
Patel
Wright
Sidebottom

Collingwood to captain

From cricinfo.

Time to book Morgan some elocution lessons too, as he's called up. Foster gets a deserved shot with the gloves, but can't help thinking Dimi, Napier & Wright is at least one too many bits-and-pieces player. Woakes for one of them?

Sqaud in full:

Paul Collingwood (capt), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff, James Foster, Robert Key, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Eoin Morgan, Graham Napier, Kevin Pietersen, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright.

Just announced:

Paul Collingwood (capt), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff, James Foster, Robert Key, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Eoin Morgan, Graham Napier, Kevin Pietersen, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright

Guaranteed inclusions: Colly, Anderson, Bopara, Broad, Flintoff, KP, Shah, Swann.

Fringe picks: Mascharenhas (good tight bowling and good hitting - makes sense), Sidebottom (indication that he's still favoured if he can get properly fit).

Surprise picks:

Foster - thank god, someone's finally got the plot! And his inclusion was stated to be because of his keeping skills, which is an implied criticism of Prior. Let's hope this is an indication that if Prior is bad again WI in the Tests, Foster might get a run in the Test side...god knows he deserves it.

Key - rage - don't like the bloke and don't think he's that special as a batsman.

Morgan - has all the makings of a very good T20 batsman, but has never faced sustained top class bowling so is a risk.

Napier - picked on the back of a couple of innings last year, don't think he's done anything since. His bowling would be a liability at international level.

Luke Wright - seriously, what embarrassing pictures of some England selectors' orgy does this guy hold? There's no other possible justification for his inclusion.
