With Crawley, it was the manner of dismissal that was so frustrating. By all accounts he batted beautifully in the morning session and I was thinking to myself how that was the best response to his critics..... then after lunch he just dangled a bat with no footwork and off you go. He does have the talent but the concentration goes AWOL.

Meanwhile, Compton seems to go from strength to strength.

Also chuffed for Lawrence getting a ton in his first match back from injury

Crawley's best response to his critics would actually be to score consistent runs in Test, which he's failed to do so far.

I love looking for dudes who did f all in the tournament in these pics. Curran and Dawson giving it large. I can't see Vince so I can only assume he didn't join in due to his disgraceful performances in that WC when he filled in for Roy.

What's the story behind Compton? Why did his FC career start so late?
He got some games for notts a few years back and didn't do well, went to zimbabwe a few months back and dominated their domestic competition, used that form to get a gig with kent this county season.

Okay I wanted England to do well as I like Baz, but not any more. I want them to lose even more frequently now.
the only time to consider supporting england is when they have a chance to do something funny to aus or india, and then you come to your senses and support aus or india.

the english establishment (as opposed to cw fans tbf) have been nothing but relentless sooks in our direction since 2013 when the almightly england ran into peter fulton and sunlight.

though i might support them against pakistan atm.

It would be great for Zimbabwean cricket if more overseas players would consider this, though Compton has family connections there and those without might find conditions a bit confronting.

Sure is something to pick up a back stress fracture having not played any competitive cricket since the middle of last year.

It was confirmed this week (and I knew it as soon as the original diagnosis was announced).
Interesting opinion from a back specialist

My completely baseless opinion is that no size fits all as it’s been proven that some bowlers benefit from rest (e.g. Starc) whereas others need to bowl every day (e.g. McGrath)

For someone who generally struggles with deliveries on 4th stump line, Pope is an odd choice at 3. Nonetheless, I'd rather him in the side than Malan, Vince et al. Let's see what Baz can do with him, there is certainly a test cricketer somewhere in there

He got himself in trouble against spin a bit too. But he's going to be up against a quality seam attack so no respite at all for young Poor. I agree that his ceiling is way higher than his peers but he's got to start converting eventually.

I find it interesting to read about a captain overbowling a player to the extent that it places the bowler in physical jeopardy.

Decisions to continue bowling are a two-way communication. The following are examples.

c: "How are you feeling?"
b: "I'm right for another couple."
Ideal response: c: "I'll give you one more."

c: "Have a spell."
b: "Just give me one more."
Ideal response: c: "No. I need you fresh for later."

b: "I'm stuffed."
c: "OK - take a break."
Ideally the captain shouldn't need to be told when a bowler reaches that stage.

I have witnessed all 3 scenarios - both as a player and an umpire. As a bowler I found the first the most common interchange.

More than anything else Pope is allergic to spin. I agree he has issues fishing as well but I tend to think that if he's going to play at all, the higher the better. I'd have probably just not recalled him yet but admittedly nothing I've seen from the other options makes me think he's not the most likely to make a significant contribution.
