Virdi could have been a better selection. Talking about Virdi there's a girl who I know also got the surname of Virdi and I thought she was related to him as their eyes looked similar too but they aren't related.

I suppose the hope is that Woakes will be handy at home.
Buttler last played FC cricket 8 months ago so this is obviously a selection based on the IPL. They must have seen how picking domestic performers hasn't exactly worked very well and picked him out of desperation.

Wood and Vince are con artists. They perform well in CC and then show their true class while playing international cricket.

When did they try this? Wince was averaging 35 tops iirc in Div 1 and less for the season when he was recalled last year. It's a selection not based on anything really to do with test cricket. Also Wood is a bleah pick, of course he finally put up a good spell just at the right time.

Basically just Vince isn't it? The rest of the batsmen deserved a go.
I'm not defending it btw, just trying to understand their thought process.
None of the batsman had good career records though, it was just one or two good seasons. Not that there are many batsman going around first class cricket with a career average of over 40 to pick from.
Despite everything you can understand the appeal of Buttler. Some of the rest of it I find harder to understand even if it is more conventional.

If they are gonna select players from IPL, Why don't send Hameed there and see him score as there are small boundaries and flat pitches and then select him for Tests?

Well they do select average Aussie players so selecting an international player might not be that big of a shock
