Could do worse than ask Stokes to bat in the top three - at least he seems to be willing to try and tough things out
At least he has a sound technique and solid defence.Don't mind that stokes idea at all
He’s what 34? How is that a long term option? Not to mention that he doesn’t actually bat 3 for his county. We have got a long term option at 3. Hildreth does well all around the counties and more importantly does well at his home ground Taunton which is a big turning track. Get him in for Sri Lanka imo
If they fast track him they might a well just get rid of the rule altogether. He's really a perfect example of why they have the rule, and getting rid of it at literally the first instance of it actually applying tp a player they would've selected if it didn't exist would make a complete joke of it.whats the latest on archer and being eligible for england?
the ecb would be f'ing stupid not to fast track him.
Isn't it a 7 year process? It's excessive in the extreme. If they fast track him they might a well just get rid of the rule altogether. Nah psychology plays a big part in sport, and especially so in cricket, Root isn't the first and won't be the last player who just can't bat in a possition that's not the one he's comfortable (Clarke is a good example of this, he averaged 60.80 batting in his prefered possiton of 5, yet only 30.61 at 4, and you can make the same argument that there's as little difference between batting at 4 or 5 as batting 3 or 4, though I would argue there's a bigger difference in batting at 3 as apposed to batting at 4 compared to 4 and 5).Root would be fine at 3 imo but would need a bit of solidarity above him. That said, he’s just being a child when it comes to battling 3, he never wanted to. Bairstow doesn’t want the lack of the cuddly blanket that is the gloves. Root may have scored most of his runs at 4 but he was still coming in inside the 5th over so what’s the difference? Just get on with it and accept you’re not always in a purple patch.
Right but if you think this you just disagree with their rules in general. If they disagreed with them they wouldn't have implemented them in the first place.Isn't it a 7 year process? It's excessive in the extreme.
CA doesn't have any rules at all on top of the ICC ones. What was fawad ahmed? 3 years?
Then he should see a specialist about that. If one position is really what affects him then perhaps he is not mentally strong enough to cope with that plus the captaincy.Nah psychology plays a big part in sport, and especially so in cricket, Root isn't the first and won't be the last player who just can't bat in a possition that's not the one he's comfortable (Clarke is a good example of this, he averaged 60.80 batting in his prefered possiton of 5, yet only 30.61 at 4, and you can make the same argument that there's as little difference between batting at 4 or 5 as batting 3 or 4, though I would argue there's a bigger difference in batting at 3 as apposed to batting at 4 compared to 4 and 5).
They dumb tho.I think Jennings is inked in for Sri Lanka as he played spin so well in India on his debut. We may think he isn't up to it but they see something in him we don't.
It certainly has been. Only Porter has stayed fit for 99% of the season. It's been a pretty awful season for the fast bowlers. Barely anyone has enhanced their claims. Certainly most of the young bowlers (garton, mahmood, fisher, helm, coughlin, stone, topley) have done little to nothing.
Archer if he is available next year is a sure thing.
Otherwise from what I've seen
Fisher, Tongue and Brookes look the most likely to be truly test class and not just at home.
Then you have a list of english type seamers/swingers that might be angling for one spot when England play at home (unless they make massive strides) - Coad, Porter, COverton etc
