Yes was surprised to see the summer like conditions forecast for today.
All the talk was about how Hagley in November would be mental to pick a specialist spinner. Might have been a good idea in the end for us.
I know we've got a similar climate in certain aspects and our may(your november) can be cold and seamers paradise, or hot and more batsman friendly.

Hagley pretty much just varies between fast bouncy batting paradise, and fast bouncy and a bit seamy right? Spin unlikely to be a factor unless we were playing multiple consecutive tests there

But even O'Rourke, for whom Christchurch has been his home town since finishing school. Has his worst FC records at the 3 Canterbury venues; Hagley, Lincoln, Rangiora. Where he averages 30 to 31 in each venue. Admittedly he has a very good (but short) overall career record so far. But is that enough to constitute a trend. 8 of his career 23 FC games at Canterbury venues where he averages low 30s in each of them.

It's hard to know how to feel about this England team. They swing so wildly from the comic to the sublime. Scoring 800 in 150 overs is terrifying, but then at the same time they got skittled for 150 in good batting conditions by SL, and surrendered a dominant position v India after Joe Root tried to reverse scoop Jasprit Bumrah of all people. If they bat first at Hagley, it's hard to know whether they'll finish 400/4 dec, or 100 all out, but both results and everything in between feels equally likely.

Lyon got a couple to rip on day 3 of last year's test to help keep Australia's chase to under 300, but then again he's forgotten more than Bashir will ever know about how to bowl on pitches that are bad for spinners.

By that I mean the spinner not needing to be used at all if hadn't been hot.
So with the weather warmer more like a hame game where the spinner being used to keep seamers fresh and have some control and wicket taker in later innings.
Durham have played a spinner every game under Campbell to try and be a difference maker. Even if some games he was just a fielder, but at international level you can't do that if that spinner is a number 11 like Bashir. So a batsman who can bowl spin like GP is better on surfaces that are seam friendly.

No I'm with you on this. Difficult stylistic match up for us.
We're more of a Joe Frazier type: good movement, able to neutralise opponents usual skills advantages. Very good against Muhammad Ali types (e.g. skillful spinners and fastbowlers), but liable to get steamrolled by big George Foreman (#intent types).

NZ = Parker - good fundamentals and plans but a bit too small and lacking in fire power, and easily demoralized
England = Dubois - looks utterly monstrous on a good day, but can be made to look a bit silly by anyone who knows what they're doing.
