England Fans - how is this series shaping up compared to 06/07 and 13/14?

In terms of numbers after Perth

06
Aus 2256 runs 56 wickets
Eng 1772 runs 38 wickets

13
Aus 2158 runs 60 wickets
Eng 1403 runs 45 wickets

17
Aus 1743 runs 60 wickets
Eng 1578 runs 37 wickets

06 figures show we still had some application with bat. Or more specifically we scored 500+ in an innings at Adelaide and still crashed burned.

17 clearly shows us at the weakest we've been for a while. 2 tests pending

In all 3 series Australia had 7 scores of over 400
602, 513, 527, 407, 570, 442, 662
Eng 551 in the first series and 403 in this one.

IMO Warner and Lyon are just as good as any opener or spinner england have produced in the last 50 years.
That's one of his least controversial posts. It's probably pretty accurate too. If you think that's "misbehaving" I've got bad news.
Mate Lyon isn't even as good as Swan, let alone Underwood, and I like Lyon, but that's ridiculous. And are we really thinking Warner is on the same level of Amiss or Boycott?

Lyon's already better than Swann, and yes, Warner is at least on the level of Amiss and Boycott, if not definitively better

Absolute lunacy. Warner only averages 36.81 away. Boyce averaged in the 40s in back-to-back series against the West Indian quicks!

Warner has 20 hundreds after 128 innings

Boycott has 22 hundreds after 198 innings.
Poor in India and Sri Lanka. Average in England. Piss poor in New Zealand. Boycott only failed (ironically) in New Zealand; he is 45 plus in every test environment, and also came against a stronger era of bowling.

Wish he’d toured in 74/75.

Yes those amateurs were so much better than the professionals of today, Denis Lillee is so much better than Steyn. If Denis was around today his average would be around 12.

Ironically I think Warner would do better against the Windies quicks than he does on the slower, more spin friendly tracks of today. His game is all about using the pace and hitting the ball cleanly. I think he'd have been pretty good vs them.

England were just no chance in 06-7. The build up for that series was just immense. Nothing was going to stop straya. Nothing was going to stop Johnson and Rhino either.

England have just kind of sucked this tour. Root. Cook. Broad. Jesus guys. Craig Overton has fought harder.

Moeen has been particularly disappointing. His failures with the bat have just exposed the tail too frequently who have been more or less blown away by our attack.

Glad we agree. I consider the period approximating Boycott's test career to be one of the strongest for bowling and much stronger than today.

So batsmen like Cook and Root probably would not have even made the england team in the 70's and 80's.

Cook would have struggled to open in an era where Boycott and Gooch, among others, were options. Had Cook been picked though, he would have no doubt done well.

Root would have made it.

Incidentally, Steyn is probably the closest bowler around today, style-wise, to Lillee. Lillee has a broader repotoire as he got older though.

As fast bowling is Cook's achilles heel and he would have done well, we can only assume that Warner would have thrived.
