Emergence of power-players

The year 2005, saw the emergence of some power-players from different teams. These players, have the ability to turn a match around in just a few overs and themselves have an extra-ordinary batting average and strike-rate.

Also, these power-players had been knocking on the doors of the selection commitee for some time, but it was only in 2005, that they finally emerged.

Some of the power-players to emerge were -

Kevin Pietersen (Eng) - 68.30 avg. & 100.45 sr
Mahendra Dhoni (Ind) - 45.70 avg. & 103.62 sr
Micheal Hussey (Aus) - 151 avg. & 100.66 sr

also, there was Justin Kemp (SA) - 35.57 avg. & 93.96 sr

What now remains to be seen is that can these power-players, continue on to maintain this extra-ordinary batting average and strike-rate. Also, the averages of these players have been boosted by the high no. of not-out innings these players have played.

Hussey isnt a "power" player. He is a great player

sadly,i don't think it's realistic that they'll be able to keep up their current stats,though i can't wait to watch them try.

Power players are at their best when in packs. If there was just one, there would be a lot of pressure on him to get a big score, so it's a difficult balancing act for him. But if there was a pair or group of power players, they can combine together and score heavily between them. Of course, it always helps the team if every power player has a second skill.

Well he's in at the end a lot which obviously contributes to his strike rate as well. Whatever, the main point is that Hussey isn't a 'power player'.

Hussey is a great clean hitter but he's too good/versetaile to be considered a power player.

Excluding that 172, his average for the year is 34.7 (as opposed to 45.2). Now it isnt fair to just remove a brilliant innings like that from consideration because if you do that for Dhoni, it'll lower his average quite a bit as well. BUT, the fact that this inning came against Zimbabwe is why it shouldnt carry as much weight.
